12v outlet cover issue
 

Hey guys, I tried searching everywhere imaginable, but I can't find this anywhere.

When I bought my car the little cover/lid over the passenger side 12v outlet just hung there and wont stay up on its own. Well I finally decided its been hanging long enough and I want to fix it. I can't find the lid anywhere online to see how it actually attaches in the up position. No clips seem to be broken or anything like that.

I'm guessing it uses a stretchy string that slightly pulls it up when nothing is forcing it down, but I don't see where it would attach.

Any help would be great, its not imperative, but little things like that bug me. BTW its a 2006

the one on the pass side i think the plastic holds it in like a lockback knife

Ok cool thanks, I guess I'm gonna have to get back down there and try to see whats missing. Or I'll have to try and rig it up somehow.

lol on my last car the glovebox was on tracks but had a string that stretched so that it would help to pull it closed, I'm not really sure why but it did.

So I was thinking it might be the same concept for that, where the string is like a cut rubberband ( that would be stretched when the lid was open) basically and constantly tries to pull the lid to the closed position, so when its open if nothing is in the outlet it will close on its own.

if that makes sense to you

*the string would also be hidden behind the console and just attached to the little knob that is in the track for the lid to slide open and closed, so you wouldn't actually see it

Post up the fix if you do it.

I had the problem and used some velcro to both sides at the top. It holds it in place and I can open it if ever necessary. I bought some circle velcro tabs at the Dollar store. Solutions Total Cost $1.06.

well im know im a bit late, but i've had this problem for a few months. finally got around to pulling that section of the dash out for another reason, and found the problem (with mine at least) is that the arm that is connected to the spring is broken.

and since its a polypropylene >PP< , i cant use some random adhesive to just glue it back together :icon31:

I just ended up taking the right side dash off and removing the door. Problem solved. If I were to fix it, I would try building a small carbon fiber box to slip onto the end of the broken arm and dremeling a small hole so the original snap open/closed function is restored. Not high on my list of priorities though.

I am surprised no one has responded to this, I have a similar issue. What is supposed to hold the door is a tension spring that connects to a plastic tab molded to the inside of the panel.
My tab was partially removed (hanging by one end), I beefed this up by applying Epoxy Glue to it and around it.
IMHO the OEM Tension spring is to strong for this application. I am presently researching to finder a smaller (thinner diameter wire) spring t replace the OEM
