My Lamborghini Gallardo Interior Build

Let me start out by saying, I'm the type of guy that likes to always stand out from the crowd. So naturally I love to add my own touches to my 350z just to make it unique and different. I put the car in my for the winter and decided it was a great time to start this huge project. My Mom loves to sew and has many imperial sewing machines, so this definitely helps (yes, I am living at home with my parents still if anyone is wondering because i am only 18).What I have done so far is:
1. Take out center dash, wrap it in carbon fiber dinoc, and clear coat it
2. Wrap a bunch of other interior parts in dinoc and clear coat that as well
3. Take out center console, oem seats, and headliner
4. Take apart oem seats down to the foam
5. Cut the oem seats up to give myself pattern layouts for the leather
6. Begin sewing the leather seats together (I am almost done with the passenger seat, hopefully by Friday I'll be 100% down with passenger seat)

What I am planning to due hopefully by April 1st:
1. Finish the seats
2. Wrap center console in leather and line it with piping
3. Wrap the headliner in leather like the seats with a diamond pattern
4. Install everything

What I will do but will not get done by April first:
1. Cut out part of oem door panel
2. Make fiberglass piece that fits in the door panel like on the lamborghini
3. Wrap the fiberglass piece in diamond stitched leather
4. Install

What I will do if I have enough leftover leather:
1. Take out main dash
2. Wrap it in leather outlined with piping
3. Reinstall

Supplies You Need:
1. You have to have a good sewing machine
2. I purchased two 7' by 8' black leather hides
3. One different color leather hide, I bought a light grey goatskin leather
4. 1/2" foam, alot
5. Material to go behind foam, something cheap
6. Temporary spray adhesive, to spray the inside of leather to stick to foam and then that to the backing material
7. Heavy duty sewing thread
8.Heavy duty permanent spray adhesive for Headliner
9.Chalk, used to draw outlines of diamonds
10. Lots of time

There are those who think that this was a waste of money that could have been used to buy engine mods but i already have a bunch of n/a engine mods and i'm only into this project with less then $325. And there isn't that much one can do to their engine for that amount, so please don't hate.

Here is what my interior is based off of:

Here is where i'm at with the seats:

The center diamond piece isn't stitched to the sides yet because i am debating on putting some embroidery on the top of it. And so far each piece fits on perfect, the pictures don't do it justice.

Here are a few pics of my dinoc wrapping and clear coating:

If i didnt have the Nismo i would have done this...Viva if you're ever interested in some upholstery work let me know...my dad is over the interior shop at Falcon Jet and has done it for 30 years, got a few cars in mags and does it on the side now!!

bmccann101 03-15-2011 12:59 PM

must make sure to use good materials. And they make shiny dinoc now.. i wouldnt clear coat it .. i say that after working with it aften.
steam n smooth top grain leather.. makes a world of diff between a katskinz kit and a real high end cars finished product.

looks like you know what your doing tho.

lgear080 03-15-2011 01:22 PM

your choice of installers and materials will make or break you.

Love the interior of the lambos. Looks and feels amazing.

You seem to know what you're doing, and so far it looks good. Can't wait to see the finished project.

I like to stand out, too, so I installed the tow hitch so that people would point and laugh and ask me about the car. It works.

Thanks but I'm heading off to vet school. Automotive projects are just going to be my hobby i think.

I found that i like the look of the clear coated dinoc better than that of the shiny dinoc, it just looks more legit in my opinon. Also I believe that if you do things right the first time you won't have to go back and fix it so i did end up getting high quality automotive leather (my mom, being so into sewing made sure that i wouldn't get crappy material. Thanks for the advise.

Ya i did see that and kinda pulled some ideas from it, yet those seats still look like oem seats with diamond stitching. I know that your probably wondering won't yours? But mine wont, its hard to explain so i'll post more pics to kinda show the difference later. Thanks though.

diablox1 03-15-2011 03:13 PM

cool project, post bigger pics if/when you get 'em instead of those small thumbnail sized pics you posted.
