paint peeling off my 350z roadster

i just bought a 2005 350 z roadster from an original owner with 36000 miles on it is in pristene condition and i have only had it about a week when i took it to the local carwash and was spraying it off when a giant flake of paint came off the trunk lid I took it straight to the dealer and they said they have never seen anything like this before i will try and post pictures of the trunk but i am just wondering if this has happened to anyone else?

uh, yeah, this happened to my 68 camaro that was painted in a garage using airplane paint. it should not be happening to that car unless the paint was badly damaged, or it was resprayed prior to selling by a place like Maaco lol

Not normal at all.

What type of car wash did you go to?

What did the carfax say about the accident history, the one that you reviewed before buying it? Did it say it had a clean title?

^ Carfax is useless, body shops don't report all accidents. The OP Needs a paintmeter to gauge a repaint.

Carfax is not useless, that a childish statement. Is it bulletproof? No. For many of the cars I have looked at on used lots, accidents were shown for the vehicles. An accident in the history is a sign that you know something happened. In those cases, you can skip the car.

Does carfax catch EVERYTHING? No, it doesn't. But does it catch anything where the police or insurance were involved? Most of the time it does.

The new reporting details for carfax are fairly impressive - it shows quite a bit of detail for newer events. Like any reporting service, it is more information in your arsenal. Only a fool ignores all the basic tools.

Sounds like it got repainted at one point or another. Keep an eye on the paint if it starts feeling bumpy/rough it will eventually chip off. This is usually due to bad flash time between paint coats. On my other car that was "clean" on carfax the paint kept getting bumpier and after 4 years of progressively getting worse the clear started chipping off by hand.

Mad? You should buy one of these and check your paint to be sure.

No, my paint is fine, just the standard flimsy Nissan paint. Black really suffers when you get stone chips because they attract white wax deposits.

davidv 06-14-2011 08:13 PM

3 days and no photos. This is the new my350Z.com norm.

Sure about that? How do you know there's no bondo? Carfax? LOL
