Post Pic's of aftermarket Tail lights on Z...

looking to update my taillights but dont want to shell out $300 + for the OEM 2006 & up... need help seeing how diff lights look on the Z, all the pics i find are the lights alone.

ZS14RR Jul 12, 2011 05:57 PM

they all look like ****. even the jdm ones.

caferna3 Jul 12, 2011 06:02 PM

bought my Z and previous owner did a Shi**y job of blacking them out and it looks grey and orange peel, so wanna go clean & close to OEM but not the <05 style

Moved to proper forum

If you'll search this forum or browse it, you'll find lots of threads on taillights.

What you're trying to do is impossible. Either get 06+ OEM or go back to 03-05 OEM, there are no other options.

Flo-ridaZ33 Jul 12, 2011 06:39 PM

They look exactly the same from a distance until you put your foot on the brake... they light up differently(06+ LED and 03-05 regular bulbs). I'm sure you can find a used set for $300 but it's going to take a lot of searching.

Waiz Jul 12, 2011 07:08 PM

Save up for the 06+'s or even the JDM 06+ clears. You're going to get some ebay garbage if you only want to pay $300 and
you will wish you just bought the 06+'s in the end.

Create a thread here to see what offers you can find:

ImWeeZzel Jul 12, 2011 07:28 PM

Save up, for the 06. you will be glad you did

Doh-Joe Jul 12, 2011 07:59 PM

What others have said. You get what you pay for.

I just bought a pair of 06+ JDM spec clear LED tail lights for my 2003 chrome silver 350Z. I bought them off of ebay a month ago for $250, half of what you would pay for retail at most vendors. One of them had a small chip off the bottom corner (doesn't affect operation of lights), which is why the seller was selling them so cheap.

They look great with my color and work perfectly. Just had to shave the connectors in order for them to fit properly in the plugs. Sometimes you can find good deals. I can post pics later this evening for you if you want.

and then with many of the knock off tails you get to deal with poor performance due to the wiring...traction control issues, throttle issues, etc (search, its been documented)

OEM 06 + tails are way more than $300 now...closer to $300 per side actually at the current rate. But, they don't condense inside, you don't have to shave any connectors, or do any wiring, or worry about anything down the road, because they are genuine parts. I'm sure if new ones aren't in your budget, you can find used ones

I had to shave my 06+ JDMs in order for them to fit in my 2003. The tabs on the male plugs are for some reason mirrored compared to the female connectors of the tail lights. Not a big deal at all.
