Updating Fact. Seats

What do you think a resonable price is to re-wrap your factory seats? I have cloth now and I want to do vinyl. I was quoted $250 a seat for basically whatever kind of set-up I wanted. My last Z I paid $350 for both seats, but that was a different company. I have black now, I'm wanting to go solid red like the new IPL G

I wonder what they'd charge for the factory leather for both seats?

gvulakh 08-08-2011 01:51 PM

i think $500 is reasonable. When I was running a Mazda showroom and doing aftermarket leather the company I used charged me around $600 to do a Miata. I ordered whatever color, perforation, and material combo I wanted from Katzkin's catalog and they installed it for me.

I only paid $650 for my leather seats (basically covers to replace the factory cloth).

vinyl?
oh dear.
Time for an RSX.
i must ask OP....

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...ANN101/Why.jpg

katskinz leather is 600 bucks.
leatherseats.com has a far better selection available. My seat leather was 1000, 160 to install...and is Bentley quality top grain, no wrinkles, its smooth like the isotoner gloves you buy yer mom for xmas every year.
:)

Very nice when pressed firmly against my man @ss cheeks for hours on end.
I suggest you experience the same for yours.
Vinyl leads to swampiness of the gooch and people pointing and laughing.

i wouldn't pay more than 600 for the same quality stock nissan leather

EmpireDude 08-08-2011 04:22 PM

I paid just over 200 on ebay for mine, installed them myself. a lil bright than the red in that pic but i like it and it fits my car!

i've been quoted a stack for better than oe leather on front seats
with custom stitch.

i need to get mine done.

bmccann101 08-09-2011 09:04 AM

mine areant red, they are terra cotta like a flower pot, common OEM porsche color.

as for the other post, no, that leather wont tighten up. You get watcha pay for in this regard, i stick to my guns.

lgear080 08-09-2011 09:33 AM

so how much is reasonable?

i was a little thrown by the stack estimate...

i've since found BRAND NEW c-class leathers for $500+$100 shipping.

just can't deal with it much longer.

bmccann101 08-09-2011 11:04 AM

lgear, id hit up sean at autoleathers for sure, thier leather is a better quality than my previous katskinz cars.. even at thier std price level stuff....

the big thing is that they ar a bit cheaper and offer FAR more color and options than katskinz. And you dont have to HUNT for thier website haha. I will be using them for all cars in the future, very cool stuff.

http://leatherseats.com/vehicle_sear...005&bodyStyle=

579 standard or 650 w suede and all custom stuff.

mine was special order extasy leather and amtching suede, theres an upcharge and i did a full leather kit, so theres only vinyl on the VERY back.. the other thing i liked about them is that they retained a black back to my seats.. it was custom and i ahd to ask for it, but they are more than willing.

This makes them appear very factory and very THIN... katzkin will NOT add black to the back and in turn it looks chunky as hell.. very lame IMHO.

lgear080 08-09-2011 11:05 AM

cool and thanks. what is reasonable for an upholstery guy to install
these once in hand?

bmccann101 08-09-2011 11:12 AM

i paid 160 and had it done very very well.. make sure someone hispanic does it, those guys can upholster like a motha fawker... dunno man. haha.
Seriously, id never let a white boy touch my leathers again. The mexican cat who did mine was bomb.. just as good as Ish from WCC on tv for sure.... :) Must be a matter of personal pride of workmanship.. just did a sick job.

These guys steamed it out during install, spray glued the foam as they installed so thers no slippage, there was like zero wrinlking or fit issues.. better than OEM by far.. yer in Miami, take em someplace that will do the same for you..

Man, my car is also silver, and that red leather is calling my name. I'd like to have some made wih Alcantara Suede for the center panels. One of my Alfa Spider's has seats like that, and they're nice and grippy, not too hot/cold in the summer/winter, and they look great.

bmccann101 08-09-2011 12:08 PM

agreed.
the alcantara on mine is great.
gets dirty easy tho being so light colored..

?

Why would anyone "want" vinyl seats? Do leather and don't look back.

dcains 08-09-2011 02:40 PM

I've actually got reupholstered (not the original leather) vinyl seats my '74 Alfa, and I'll tell you great vinyl ($$$) looks and feels better than best OEM leather I've seen used in most cars of the last 20 years. Leather today is top-coated with color, which means when it wears you'll see the base leather color, but more importantly, you can't properly condition/preserve it. The good stuff, was vat-dyed, so the color went all the way through, and the natural pores stayed open, allowing conditioners to soak all the way through. Connelly was the last company to sell this stuff, but they went under in 2002 after ~120 years. I've seen 50-year old Connelly that's still buttery-soft. Anyway, point is, modern leather isn't what it used to be.

bmccann101 08-09-2011 02:45 PM

i concur fully. I enjoy the leather smell and how it hangs in the air of the car.. makes it feel a bit mroe humid too.. dunno.

I always just call my leather Connelly becuase its easier than explaining all that about the quality and construction to ppl. :)

Leatherseats.com exctasy series leather is top grain and vat dyed. It indeed goes all the way thru and even thier samples they sent me are fully vat dyed.
Good stuff, but a little more expensive.

just pointing out so ppl know.. and im very happy w my seats.. just a night and day difference from the katzkin stuff i see.

im sorry i dont have better pics, but you can see from this pic how wrinkle free and tight the kit is, and the installation was fantastic, note there is VERY little grain to the leather as well.. theres no skin fingerprint texture to it almost at all...
