CF Hood Oxidized!
 

Hey guys I got a problem, my CF Hood has pretty much completely oxidized. It looks like sh!t and It is such an eye sore. Ive done some searching on here and have seen a couple of ways to restore the CF look. Only problem is I don't trust myself enough to use wet sandpaper in fear that I might Fukc up the hood permanently.

So question to be asked is do you know of any chemical compound, a de-oxidizer, or a home remedy that anyone knows of?

I would post pics of the hood but have no idea how to post pics ( noob i know ).. Any help would be appreciated.

I would just have it re-cleared. I dont think the hoods come w/ a clear coat layer. its just the resin that gives the hood its shine

There is no "home remedy" or chemical app thats gonna fix your hood.
This could be a DYI .However,lets be real,not everyone has the knowledge,tools etc to do this right.I'd take it to a good body shop and have e'm sand the hood down a apply some good clear coat.

My entire 350z except for my front and rear bumpers is composed of carbon fiber parts and its starting to yellow and oxidize the same as the OP's cf hood. Should I perform this same process on all of my CF parts as well?

I was thinking of just painting it but the carbon fiber look is beautiful and makes my car look unique but if its not doable, then paint will suffice? Your thoughts?

I don't see why not but if possible I would suggest you paint it instead.

Thanks Waizzz! I was leaning towards painting it anyways. Possibly a candy red or a candy blue paint. I need to decide soon. I'm trying to have this done in addition to my vortech install before Z days.

Would re-clearing all of the carbon fiber pieces counteract the yellowing from the resin?

Just paint to body color, you car will look so much better.

Never done it myself but I dont think it would. Best bet would be to paint it the same color of car as the car as said.

I'm going to paint it but change the color for sure to bring out the body lines since my cars shape is more aggressive than stock due to CF body panels installed. Thanks guys!

hey guys back from the banz, sorry bout that.. thanks for the responses. Ill prolly just follow the DIY link. One question about that though, What is in the spray bottle? just good ole' H2O?

I had the same problem a couple of years ago, there were a couple of temporary fixes that I came up with at the time, courtesy of my university chemistry lab (I think I used a couple compounds i made in organic and quant), that temporarily worked but the oxidation always returned. Best bet is to take to a body shop and have it sanded and clear coated. I think I paid like $90 and the hood looked brand new.
