Behind the driver's seat?

Hi all. I've just become the proud owner of a shiny new '04 350z base model. I was looking around inside and was a little curious what was behind the driver's seat. There is a glove box on the passenger side. Anyone look at this panel on the driver side?

thats where the sub for the bose system is on the better model

kruuth Jan 1, 2004 07:34 PM

Ah. I wonder what I can do with it.....Any suggestions?

mofoz Jan 1, 2004 08:54 PM

some people try to convert that to another glove box, but the stock parts are kinda expensive. Many people say that putting a sub in that location costs to much to make it sound good as opposed to putting it in a corner of the trunk.

How large is the area once the panel is removed?

supra crazy Jan 2, 2004 08:30 AM

I put my AMP behind there

kruuth Jan 2, 2004 09:15 AM

How much area is back there anyway? I figure I'll put a speaker there. Are the wires already there?

kruuth Jan 2, 2004 09:25 AM

On another note, where could I get another glove box component?

kruuth Jan 2, 2004 05:49 PM

Ok. I'm gonna try to stick a 12 incher there. Is there a way to mount something in there? How do I string the wires?

hndumafia Jan 4, 2004 11:03 PM

you're gonna need magic if you want to fit a 12 back there facing straight out... it's meant for the bose 10 incher that would go there if you had the bose system (which you're better off not having)...the mounting bracket is there for the sub even without the actualy sub being there though.

the space back there is pretty large and i used it to store my two amps by making a custom panel that is bolted onto a bar that's just sort of sticking down back there. there is plenty of air space and it is also open to the glove box area and the spare tire compartment through other holes so you dont have to worry about the heat from the amps in there.

i could be wrong but i dont remember there being any wires there for the stock audio system...but again i could be wrong, i never really looked around for the wires since i ran all new wires anyway. to get wires back there there is a great DIY post if you look at the audio section of the forums. it's the first thread titled something like "350z how to". it's pretty simple to get from the radio to that compartment....but if it's a new car and you haven't done anything else to it then it's kinda sad to think about dismantling part of the car. but dont let that disuade you, pull off that plastic! the sound improvement is definitely worth it.

the stock glove box pieces can be purchased from any nissan dealership but are very pricey... as far as i remember to get the black molded piece and the latch and door runs around 300 bucks. i also really wanted the stock molded black piece but for the price i decided it wasn't worth it. i'm sure i could mount my amps nicer if i had the piece but the area is covered anyway so i decided to save my money for something else.

hope that helps some what...sorry for rambling on there a bit

so that speaker mount is already there....interesting.

DIGItonium Jan 5, 2004 08:33 AM

The speaker mount is proprietary. The non-standard diameter makes it hard to fit a 10" sub.

My dad and I customized it by using lots of dynamat and 3 cans of spray polyfoam. Then he used an MDF board to custom make a bracket for the sub.

Then I purchased a stock bose grille from Courtesy Nissan for under $7... looks great! :-D

I can make a mount....I have access to some cad/cam equipment.

plenty of room back there. i have my power inverter there. 12vdc to 115ac for my xbox
