Matte black vinyl wrapped 350Z

First time DIY wrapping a car. I wrapped it with matte black vinyl all by myself.

The project started a month ago. Since i'm a college student and I was taking summer school, I do not have a lot time doing the work everyday. So I wrapped my car one piece at a time (roof, door, rear side fenders..etc). The total work time is 19 hours, but I split it to almost a month due to school work and hot weather (cuz i don't have a garage :dunno:).

Well, I did it. Feel super happy. With some help of my friends, my gloss black Z turned into a matte look.
Here are some pics.

Great job man! I always appreciate DIY's that require patience and dedication, such as this.
Time for a new set of wheels? :D

I'm partial to the gloss black tho. I dig the flat back, but I would ditch the red GT stripe, and maybe see what it looks like with the gloss roof...to better match the CF fenders

Props for doing this project. Its sure not something that can be done in a few hours.
However,IMO you sorta shot yourself in the foot by going too far with the side stripe.
I know, its easy to stand back and say to yourself,"it needs something else".
You put that "something else" on the car and screw it up.Also,I question the CF fenders.
This also fights against the matte look.Maybe in person it looks better? On the opposite side of the coin,an extra "add" at times makes the look.Where the stripes fight what
you are doing, different wheels will sure complete the package.Wheels along with a drop
will complete the picture.
In relation to the matte that you did,I just test drove a Hyundai Velo turbo in grey matte.Interesting color...but,I'd get tired of it real soon.Besides,a matte paint is a different animal than a matte vinyl wrap. With the paint, there are "special procedures"
needed to wash&care for this puppy. They give you a 13 page booklet on the paint care along with a special package of sealers, wash etc.
Still, only 1,000 of these will be available.People standing in line to buy e'm.
The Velo drove pretty damn good by the way.A bit stiff/hard riding.But,hey--for 25k
quite a buy!

Not sure about the stickers. Gt edition? Enkei sticker with stock rims?

BoomerZ33 08-13-2012 05:29 AM

what's up with that GT edition stripe??

Nice job. Not sure if you took out the headlights/tail lights/door handles/ etc., which is the proper way to wrap a vehicle. But, it's understandable if you didn't want to get that involved with it.

I think the carbon fiber panels and mirrors clash with the matte finish. The stripe isn't bad but I think a red accent could have been used somewhere else. The wheels look good too.

Just get a shorty antenna and do the rear wiper/nozzle delete as well. Your back end will clean up so much with those inexpensive mods.

props on DIY wrap.
I would suggest wrapping the front fenders/mirrors/pillar/door handles
Remove red stripe
tinting windows
Lower
get Wheels.

The main problem that stuck out for me was in the last pic.

True "Devil Horns" always thumb tuck. Thumbs out make you look like a fool :D

The car looks good though.

I was talking about the sticker on the hood, not the wheel.

It looks incomplete since the fenders are carbon fiber, mirrors still gloss, and windows aren't tinted. Good project so far, props for doing it yourself

nice job, especially just being you and your friends. my cheap a$$ friends would always ask "how much" when i ask them for help on my car :icon22:

ive found that the matte look works best when nearly everything is covered in similar vinyl.
Im now covering my hoods, handles, roof wing etc etc

How much should I lower it? Any suggestion? Currently I don't plan to get any bigger rims.
