Just installed spoiler but the hatch won't release
I just installed the aggressive spoiler along with some strong hatch struts to handle the spoiler but there is a problem. Every time I tried to open the hatch the hatch is as if its locked or it won't open. Yes the hatch does releases partially but in order to open the hatch I have to hold the hatch while lifting and press the release button at the same time.
This has never happened before I installed the aggressive spoiler. I have read some solutions and that extra weight part located under the hatch panel is not there is that solution is useless. How can I fix this? |

Struts are def not the issue I have the same problem you have and I too purchased struts from z1motorsports.
What the real issue is the black rubber spring/lifters (not sure what they are called) are what actually get the hatch to pop past the locking point. I tried opening them up and placing pennies inside of them as I belive I read on one thread here awhile ago, and it worked for a week or two but then I was back to the same issue. I have not been able to find a fix and have just been living with it. |

The pennies fix has been around forever. It will only work for a short time.
Nissan upgraded the hatch bumpers with a stronger spring. These are available but usually about 35 bucks each.I posted a fix on the forum earlier this year. The fix I used(and still is working)is to insert small rubber wedges between the coils of the springs. I used pieces of a old bushing lodged in the springs. This stiffens the spring allowing the deck to pop open.Be careful on the penny fix.Too many will cause the rod in the spring to extend upward into the deck. You will have some nice "pimples" on the surface. Use no more tha 3 coins. The problem is not the struts.Their job is to hold the deck up. |
Well the penny trick works. I do not use the trunk much so I maynot need to get the longer springs as of yet.
thanks guys |
I have the z1 struts and new rubber springs and it still never popped in 1 shot. I guess im just used to it by now but it does get annoying sometimes, especially if I am carrying something heavy or in a rush.

thanks guys is a micro version of the rubber insets for car coil springs to give more "lift". You may want to shom the springs a bit,AND keep the pennies in... |
I used a valve spring compressor and disassembled my hatch spring and put washers behind the spring on the hatch side to put pre load on the spring and put it back together and worked perfect. Might take a few times to see how many washers you'll need
