Nissan 2003 Cabin Air Filter
Hi all,
I guess that there's no cabin air filter for the 03 2003 model. Does it mean it's just using the intake filter? Thanks |
No - the cabin air isn't filtered on any 350Z. No car shares its engine air filter between the engine and cabin.
|
Wow what a question!
|
That's what I thought but read some random threads saying what I posted. It sounded weird so that's why I wanted to clarify. I must have misunderstood what they said I guess...
So is there such filter and where would it be? Where does the air for the outside vs inside cabin air get routed from... Thanks |
As stated, the Z doesn't have a cabin air filter. Cabin air from outside is taken in from those grilles under the hood, at the leading edge of the windshield. Most cars take in cabin air from that area, since it's a high pressure zone when the car is moving. Many cars do have a cabin air filter. For example, my wife's Acura TL-S has one behind/above the glovebox, on the passenger side of the dash.
I wish that the Z had a cabin air filter, as I definitely get dust and pollen inside the cabin, while the interior of my wife's Acura stays much cleaner. And when the cabin air filter is changed on her car, it's amazing the amount of dirt it has captured - much more actually than the engine air filter during the same time interval. |
Hmmm i wonder if we can mod a filter to fit in there... I've seen it done on a GTO before. Would keep interior much cleaner
|
A filter would also keep the A/C evaporator and heater core clean, but I don't think anyone will be able to mod the Z to accommodate a filter.
|
K51, thank you for your thorough explanation, makes perfect sense.

I believe Nissan equips its 4 wheel drive vehicles with a cabin air filter. That makes sense since these vehicles might be driven off-road where you would draw a lot of dust and grime into the interior without a filter. Even my very old military-style Montero has a cabin filter. You need it when driving in the desert or very dry areas at altitude.
The Z car is meant for the street, and most likely pavement and not gravel. A cabin air filter isn’t necessary. --Spike |

Ha I just had my oil changes at the Nissan dealer and the service advisor told me I need to have my cabin microfilter changed.
