CAN'T switch lock+horn modes(i know how to)
Hi guys, just got my Z and am loving it so far! 06 Coupe 6mt....
First let me say I do know HOW to switch modes (hold LOCK+UNLOCK) for the horn to honk or not when locking the doors. I have read the manual, and searched all the posts in here about what do to. So please don't flame me for asking this question My problem is it doesn't work.... It won't switch the modes(it always honks). My car came without the stock key fobs so i ordered some and programmed them, and both work like they should > i.e. all the buttons do what they are supposed to. I have held both buttons for 2 seconds, 5 seconds, 10 seconds, I held them until my fingers hurt..... Nothing happens. My question is: Do I need a STOCK Nissan key fob to switch the mode? Thanks for your help guys! John |
When you say stock do you mean the original key fob that came with the car or do you mean just OEM style ones? Either way, I have a replacement OEM style key fob from ebay that switches between the two just fine so you don't need the originals.

Yeah, I ordered my fobs from eBay as well, OEM style. The remotes work for locking/unlocking/hatch release... I just can't figure out why nothing happens when I hold lock+unlock....

You can get a used one for like 5 dollars on there, try an actual used Nissan one before anything else.

The signals may be different in an aftermarket ones. The stock ones continue sending a signal as long as the buttons are pressed, aftermarket ones may only send the signal upon depressing the button as a short blast of signal and then stop. If that makes sense

Gotcha, thanks a ton guys! I'll see if I can find someone local with a stock remote and program it just long enough to switch modes. I should have looked for OEM Nissan remotes!

So i figured out something today.... As i was walking to my car, i pressed and held the unlock button to roll down my windows and it occurred to me that the remotes can't be the short pulse signal style remotes i(we) first thought.
Could it be that when 2 buttons are pressed they cancel each other out? As in the remote can't handle 2 buttons at once? I'm still looking for someone with an OEM remote i can "borrow" to swap modes, but still wanted to understand why these remotes didn't work in case someone else had this issue in the future. just something to think about! Thanks |
