Rear hatch doesn't fit properly
 

So I'm new to the 350 since I just picked one up a few days ago. I couldn't help but notice that the top of the rear hatch sits a little bit higher than the roof line. Left and right sides don't line up in the back either. How could I redo the fitment? Couldn't find it on google and not sure if replacing the struts will help with the fitment. Thanks in advance!

Hatch struts hold the hatch up,not align it.As for the hatch being higher than the roof line there's not too much you can do about it.May have been in a wreck OR it was removed and installed incorrectly.

Wrong, and I would agree with you if I didn't experience this and fix it on a friends car.

The mounting brackets bend, especially with high pressure struts. Slight tweak back and good to go again

Hi, NissanZcrazy: If you'll look at your struts you'll see that the bracket that mounts to the body has a (nom.) 1/4" offset downwards, or toward the body. If this bracket is mounted with the offset turned up, then the strut body is raised by an effective 1/2'. This causes physical interference with the hatch and results in cantilevering the hatch upwards. Since the latch is fixed in position the consequential displacement is observed at the top of the hatch.

Even easier than checking it out on your Z, just open the link Z1 thoughtfully provided above. It's pretty obvious if you're aware of the problem.

*IF* interference is the circumstance and the lower bracket is correctly installed but bent, terrasmak's solution should also be considered.

Wrecked is a possibility, hopefully the OP will report back in?

easiest way to tell.... see if the shocks are removable .... if they aren't they are prob the oem ones

Thanks for the replies. Dunno if the car was in a crash or not, paint seems to be even throughout the car minus a a few small spots here and there. If it were, where would the most obvious spots for repairs be? don't see any welding or work in the engine bay but it's got 140k on it so it's no garage queen. I'll check the struts and mount tomorrow and see what's up.

Turns out the struts were mounted wrong lol I'll have to change em soon. thanks for the help!

For mine, the strut connectors on the bottom (that is connected to the body of the car), was attached upside down. So just simply flip that and it will fit flush, how it should.
