Question Exterior Door Handles both blistering/peeling

Howdy

I found a thread already eight years old on this topic .... but no solutions.

My 2003 350Z has silver door handles one of which I removed. The covering that is blistering / bubbling / peeling seems to be some form of metal. It's much heavier than aluminum foil but is also more pliable than sheet aluminum - somewhat like lead (which it ISN'T). I don't know if this was put on by electroplate - can that be done over plastic?

I can't paint over it as it is FAR too uneven to look good; and looks really difficult to peel it all off as it goes all up under and through the latch mechanism.

So - anyone got the cure for this?

Thanks

Same thing happened to me last year, I saw 3 choices.
1. Spend 120 bucks for replacements.
2. Buy Carbon Fiber covers(evo r).
3. Peel off everything you can see and paint them.
