I don't like the new split politics/off topic forum.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't like it. Hard to tell what something would qualify as sometimes. Ultimately I just think it's too fine of a distinction. Anyone feel the same?

I lean a little bit in the "don't like it" direction. I always thought it was fun to be able to stumble on another political discussion, and sometimes there would be hijacks. I don't like to be confined to talking about politics only.

i think we should dedicate a whole forum to not liking the politics/war forum.

You don't have a Z, you have no room to talk.

Mods can we move this thread into the politics section?:p

nbdyfcnsqnc Jun 11, 2004 02:07 AM

I didn't think it would be a bad idea, but the result, it seems, is traffic for this site is going down. It's a weekday, and it seems like weekend traffic.

It's just not as fun this way. I don't care enough to check one forum or the other, so the result is that I don't come here nearly as often. Also, I like to be surprised, and if I know what to expect, it's just not as surprising. The element of randomness (which, by the way is one of four key components to a game!) is lost.

I like the way it used to be. Even though I'm a not a big fan of politics, I was interested in some of the threads that popped up. But now I'm starting to wonder what really is Off Topic (FandF3???).

As a side note, I found this thread and the stem cell one in the Off Topic section after it had been moved. I probably never would've seen it otherwise.

i like it better the old way too

I strongly prefer this new arrangement.

This lets all the politically-oriented people like Jon, nbdy, 1337, eletrik, etc. have their own forum to discuss issues important to them. my350z is more charged up politically than other ones I frequent, plus the political threads are always very divisive and contentious.

Plus I remember more than a couple people saying they frequent this site because of the political discussion that goes on. Now these people don't have to wade through threads with pictures of women and other unpleasant things like that. :D

jesseenglish Jun 11, 2004 05:38 AM

I dislike this new setup. With the old way, many people might read the thread and realize that they have a good opinion on something that's being discussed. By moving this to a forum of it's own, many people will not be participating, limiting the discussion to a small group of people. Not very interesting and this was the only reason I've been visiting the site for a while now. No real reason now.

Really, now hard is it to "wade" through a couple more threads in off topic. Seems like micro-management to me.

If I can find another Z forum with a lot of people and they aren't idiots, I'll probably move there.

skooly Jun 11, 2004 05:50 AM

I don't care for it either. I think it will decrease traffic and participation.

plezercruz Jun 11, 2004 07:34 AM

I think we have enough politically-minded people to have a separate forum for them. But the new format will certainly keep these discussions isolated to "the usual suspects."

I personally think this whole affair is a direct result of the evil influence of he-of-whom-we-do-not-speak....but who knows...

Pete (acknowledges that he is almost purely a politics-critter)

MannishBoy Jun 11, 2004 02:23 PM

I've stated my opinion on the gazillion different forum thing before. I hate having to click on 10 forums to keep up with what I'm interested in, so, I often only check in on some stuff on rare occasions that I might see interesting threads in.

I'd prefer not to have the seperate forum myself. Oh well.

nbdyfcnsqnc Jun 22, 2004 02:59 PM

I changed my mind. I think it's working pretty well now. It just took awhile to build traffic.

tbcz Jun 22, 2004 03:17 PM

I agree. I wasn't sure about it at first, but it seems to have come into its own, and as I don't particularly join in on these discussions (I do read almost all of them though), it has made the OT forum an easier place to navigate.
