What's It Take to Tune a F/I?
After reading hundreds of posts on F/I, it seems that tuning is the key to a long lasting & strong running F/I system, whether it be T/T or S/C. The manufacturers set their kits up with conservative maps designed for reliability but there appears to be some room for fine-tuning to free up some HP. So what is necessary to do this fine-tuning? It would seem that a dyno, for certain but what else? A laptop with some kind of tuning software compatible with the kit? I ask because the closest dyno to my hometown is over 100 miles away so if I make an appointment there, I want to have all the other necessary components with me. FWIW - I'm taking Brett's ( tig488 ) Vortech off his hands & he said he has multiple maps but we're not sure that they'll be the best for my G since I have more mods than his G has ( Borla headers; Crawford plenum & 350 EVO throttle body would seem to be the ones most directly interacting with the Vortech ). If nothing else, I guess I can plan on a trip to Houston to visit with SGP. Thanks in advance for everyone's input!
