Would anyone buy an standalone for $500?
I've been thinking about installing the MS ecu I use in my drag car into my 350 after I get the new motor in. It can control fuel / spark and i build them myself. It would require the user to tune the fuel and spark tables themselvs, but it can also run along with the stock ecu and only control the injectors and keep the stock ecu for timing, throttle plate control, signals to the IP etc. I idle .5L cyls on my drag car with 880's on each one, so the control is very precise. I'm just curious if anyone would be interested. This stuff is for the diy people, and is no way plug and play.
i'm putting MSnS on my volvo -- I thought you would have to convert the car to throttle cable for MS? maybe i'm just behind the times ('cause I didn't know it could work with other ECU's as well, the volvo one is a PnP replacement -- except for tuning, of course)
I believe someone is already converting their car to throttle cable for a larger throttle body. If that person (don't remember who it is) could post and tell us how that is going it would be great. Getting rid of the drive by wire would be most beneficial to the stand alone development.

MS is not suitable for a street driven car. What about correction tables?? Cold start? Warm Start? Ambient adjustments. It's just too simple and crude to effectively run a street car under various conditions...IMHO.

The MS could run the inejctors and fire the coil packs. The stock ECU would stay in place to control the throttle body, CC and all those little things. The vq dosen't have an IAC (or at least I didn't see one when I pulled my motor) and I believe the throttle plate controls idle. Also, the stock ecu may freak if it sees it is not controling the motor, but we would just have to find out.
I'd build the megasquirt units and a harness to easily connect it to the Z and ship it with base maps. It will most likely be a while, I'd probably do it over the winter because I'm going to want to drive my Z after I get the motor back in it.
Also, the MS2 is in development. It has CAN support and a bunch of other goodies. But it's far from stable at this point. It could most likely run the throttle body servo with some tweaking.
