Default SGP 5AT valve body - VIDEO!

Hey guys...

Letting the cat out of the bag, now that I can.

I was the one testing the SGP Valve body upgrade for our 5ATs. While I will not go into much detail about what exactly is done, suffice it to say that it is not your Level 10 or Stillen VB mod, most definitely not!

My impressions:
1) While driving conservatively, say, under 30% throttle, the shifts are 50-70% faster, but with ZERO harshness. So, if your grandma borrows the car oneday, she won't have any complaints.
2) In 40-60% 'intermedaite' throttle range, the shifts are NOTICEABLY faster and more positive, and in my opinion exactly how they need to be. So, to be clear, you do feel a 'bump' during shifts that is by no means uncomfortable or overly intrusive.
3) 70-100% throttle - ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE. This system is incredible. It chirps the tires during 1-2 and 80% of the time during 2-3 shifts. All the other shifts are noticeably harsher and very very fast. Later, when i get some logging done, I will be able to measure exactly how fast the shifts are, now and with the stock VB.

This is an A+++++++++++ system, period!

I actually made a quick and dirty (well...not 'dirty') video with my digital camera for you to actually see 1) the speed of the shifts, and 2) how it spins/chirps the tires during 1-2 and 2-3 shifts ( in this case 1-2 only). This is a video of the instrument cluster up close during a quick run. Will try to do a better video as time allows.

I will let Kyle of SGP Racing comment on the rest.

Let me know what you think fellas..

Nice video. I couldn't breathe.

Now, if we could only team up this SGP proto-VB with paddle shifters... Hoo-wee!

Default A lot of info from this video

Gurgen:

the trip odometer went from 153.7 to 153.9 2/10ths of a mile.
Speed 72 MPH
Tach twice at 7200 RPM
Clean Shifts - "Can't do that with a 6MT consistantly"

Looks like you have a winner.

One Question what is the little Orange Light between Speedo and Tach?

Cheers Amy -

You noticed that... too tired to do the math on it now..but i could tell you that this car BEFORE the VB mod at 9-9.5 psi was at 4.45 sec 0-60 with a regular launch (no tire spinning).

The tach is about 300-320 rpm too 'optimistic', i assume done so for safety by Nissan. The shift occured right at 6800 +/- 50 actual rpm.

The light is the 'slip light', because the right tires chirps during the shift, just like you can actually hear in the video.

Thanks..the car is a definite blast to drive, it's insane, especially at night (she runs a lot better when the ambient temp is around 70 or below). I took her out last night, and while the tires still on the cold side and the engine just warn enough to be redlined (180F coolant temp), I made a run with VDC off. I swear that right tire did about a 40-50 ft burnout @1-2 shift. One the tires heat up a bit, somethign like that is not possible, since they grasp quite well (275 BFG G-force t/a kdw2), at least at 9 psi boost.

It's been around 10K miles. The clutchpacks are not in a prestine condition, in fact they are not the nice brown color anymore, but they are not worn out either. If this was available when i was going FI, they would be in a prestine condition. I also have a TC but you do not need it per se (i would only do it if you want to increase efficiency OR increase stall).

When and how much ?
A question for SGP, I am sure Kyle will be chiming in soon.

Awesome, good to know man. Makes me have more courage in going FI with my 5at. What turbo kit you have? I forget.

I doubt anyone dealing with these valve bodys will do a core program. Cause think about it, they send you out your SGP VB, and you send them back your stock one, but say it gets damaged on the way to them. They are **** out of luck.

Core exchange is, I am SURE, how this will be done. These parts are NOT available from the dealer, as these ATs are 'non-serviceable'. So all you can buy are full trannies only.

What other people like Stillen have been doing is you send them your stock valve body, and they mod it and send it back, just have to ensure the package for however much it cost.

Great review. I'm very interested, my plan it to mod the AT prior to adding the Turbonetics single Turbo. Do they have any prices as of yet?

I will have pricing and availability very soon . This VB is MUCH more involved then what Stillen and/or Level 10 does. We are not just drilling out passages and replacing springs. A LOT of testing and research went into this to make it the best available on the market. I will have more information very soon...stay tuned

I thought I was done with mods until I started reading about this. Can't wait!

Isn't testing something for a manufacturer fun? The hardest part is keeping quiet until they say start a thread. Replying to posts is going to keep you busy.
