I can't believe I want more!

Well I have had my car back for about 3 weeks now and I thought I wouldn't be saying this, but I want more power! My last dyno was 543whp and 490tq at 12.5psi. I think imma have to order me those new wastegates SGP is making and have the boost turned up to 14psi or 15psi. :icon11: :icon14:

I know the feeling, start by upgrading injectors

The power is addicting. Although the power is pretty much useless at lower speeds and gears...the thrill of 4th gear blasts down the freeway....with a nutty amount of power to the wheels...is sooooo much fun.

spdkils Sep 19, 2005 07:34 PM

Everybody keeps talking about how they can't keep traction...

Does the stock traction control just suck? You guys pull the fuse? What is the deal?

@ my current power with a hard launch the RL kicks in and you just hear "CHIRP CHRIP CHRIP CHRIP CHRIP CHRIP" as I tear away... and I don't even have an LSD yet.

If I had more I'm sure it would just cut my power more... HOWEVER... I would be accelerating at the limit of what ever my current traction is. Can't ask for more then that...

Traction control is pretty much worthless at really high power. It is just too abrubt in its operation when accelerating hard in a straight line. It almost feels like a limp mod or something...very unsettling. Most people turn it off to get an aggresive launch, and fast shifts and application of power between shifts. I think the VDC/Traction control is very intrusive. :(

My favorite thing is how you can climb to 140mph in a very short time and distance. As far as traction, I have my eye on a DTA standalone. Zeus350tt is having one installed on his 350Z. He has a fully built motor with sleeves and is shooting for 1000whp. The DTA has real traction control. Imma check it out on his ride and see how it works. The price is pretty reasonable.....$3000 installed and tuned. Also you don't loose any factory functions.

Sharif,

How does the car daily drive with RC 650's? I might have to pick me up from you very soon. ;) How about those open wastegates you were tellling me you were going to have a GB for, when you going to have that?

tig488 Sep 19, 2005 07:58 PM

just get a supra, thats what im contemplating.

phunk Sep 19, 2005 08:00 PM

its never enough. my boss is at 1725rwhp on gasoline and still wants more.

holy chit! If I ever get to that stage, I am going to mod my right foot by chopping it off! :icon14:

It sounds pretty exotic. I just emailed you a vid with sound from outside the car.

thx buddy..checking now

I've never driven a FI Z so I really can't comment, but I get the impression that one with 500 whp or more would drive like if a stock Z came with bicycle wheels instead of car wheels.

Kinda like you'd have all this power and it's awesome, but kinda frusturating too since you can't really floor the gas until you really get going. On street tires anyway

I dunno. The highway does sound fun though :)

I'm looking into getting a DTA standalone. It has a real traction control feature. Not like our sh!tty VDC that shuts off fuel, the DTA can be programmed to take away wheel spin by boost pressure and rpm for optimal launch.

We havent seen many people tune their cars for traction yet, it will be interesting to see how this issue is addressed by different people. RPM based boost control, gear based boost control, moving power up the rpm band where its more effective etc. Alot of the exotics use different methods to ensure the most amount of traction is available and im sure we can use some of this as a guide.

I agree I have not seen a large amount of boost controller usage being done here. Primarily like the HKS EVC5, Blitz sbc-Id and the Apexi AVC-R which all have gear based boost control. It seems that at those power levels maybe this could be done. A nice feature I think would be if HKS could incorporate the gear based boost control into the HKS Fcon V pro to provide a limited sort of traction control where the EVC would limit the boost in lower gear but would send a signal to the Fcon telling it to increase the timing a bit or subtract fuel from the part of the map and then slowly add fuel or remove timing from the map as it adds boost in. I'm not sure if it can or has been done but that is certainly a feature I will be looking for when I go built motor next year.

I havent swapped them just yet. As "600whp" becomes the new "500whp", a lot of my customers are opting for 650cc injectors. No complaints yet, although the idle can be a tad rougher....not bad..just a little rougher. Since most of these people are running Emanage Ultimate setups, it allows for good fuel trim control at part throttle positions, and we can tune out the rich situation when you first tip in the throttle.

The 3 inch downpipes are still pending. There are three manufacturers working on the, but none of them have a firm ETA on when production units will be avail. I will certainly keep you all posted though. :D

t32gzz Sep 20, 2005 06:13 AM

Do all of the gear based boost controllers work on the Z? Are there any issues with drive by wire?

spdkils Sep 20, 2005 02:17 PM

I added the after market RL control... Now I'm not sure what the stock VDC/TCS does... But the RL has a random fuel cut for cylinders, and completly "wastes" that cylinder.

Now it is a bit odd when it kicks in because basicaly you have random cylinders not firing, but it is an EXTREAMLY fast way of removing power to keep the wheel spin down.

I've been runing mine for a month or so now and it works like a charm... It does need a bit of tuning to keep the cuts from starting/ending too agressive, but it works well in corners. (Its great to turn corners @ full throttle and have the car take care of the exit speeds.)

I'm also AMAZED that more people arn't clamoring for 3.0 rear ends!!! With high HP numbers our TQ is HUGE!!! Yet VERY few people are putting in taller gears to match the TQ we're making.

I'd buy a 3.0 rear in a heart beat... You'd be able to stay in gear longer, and use more of your TQ instead of having it spin off @ the wheels, or be wasted with time shifting...
