How many revup's have lost it under pressure??
I did a search and didnt find any of the results I was looking for. I am curious to see how many guys with boosted revup motors have blown their motors up.

dude.. i think im the only one :( i want my car so damn bad.. wtf this sucks.. i wait way to long. if i didnt have another car this would absolutely suck.
its like its always another week. i get all excited and then no car for you! ONE YEAR! now im ready to move and switch jobs and i still dont have my car.. i have no idea wtf im gonna do.. this sucks.. i sware on everything that is holy i will not mess up this car this time around.. im gonna check and recheck everything everyweek if i have to! :cool: |

I havent seen a Revup failure besides the guy above. What kit/boost/power did you have?

aps tt 8.5 psi 420 rwhp stock block.. spun a bearing
aps tt 12psi ??? rwhp built block destroyed a piston this time (i hope) 12 psi 500rwhp-ish motor good forever!:icon38: |
You were untuned though, weren't you?

damn, how'd you destroy a forged piston at 12 psi? did you melt it? too much or too little timing and skyrocket the EGTs?

I know its only speculation at this point, but the rev up motors do seem to be holding up better, as I havent heard of any blow ups, aside from para's. Maybe the internal strengthening Nissan performed is helping?? The rev-up motors are also making about 25whp more with mild boost, when compared to their non-rev-up counterparts. All good news, to me! :)

have you tested an F/I revup with both the stock manifold and a motordyne Mrev + spacer or Mrev 2+ spacer? |

second time i was untuned and trying to get tuned but had some problems .. so i was driving it back the shop when it went.. :( |

I've been running my setup since April and haven't blown it apart (yet...). Maybe it's just luck, maybe the revup motors are actually a bit stronger. Not sure. Hopefully I'll have a chance to build the block before she goes (knock on wood).

i wonder if he spools up fatser w/ the '03 plenum? and what about his torque? although, the TN setup seem to make more torque than all the other F/I setups. |

I think he spools up later than my car, so no it doesnt seem to help his spool. His TQ isnt as flat either. I think some more tuning is in order to really get a good idea. But Ill run the idea of him putting the stock plenum on to compare.

Better Designed Rods in Revup
I was reading one of these threads a while back when someone was asking the internal difference in a Revup motor. They evidently redesigned the rods to a stronger design. The pistons are moly coated to for better heat tolerance. I would think this engine would be a better canidate for FI.
I am currently on the waiting list for a Turbonetics ST kit for the Revup. I am going to get flammed for saying this but you guys that are popping you engines, most of you are asking for it. Most of these kits are designed and tuned out of the box for a bone stock engine and they tell you not to add engine mods above and beyond the Turbo kit or bad things may happen. About 99% of you guys that have blown your engine have admitted that you have either tweaked with the tuning, adding additional mods thus throwing off the tune, or yoeur street racing and then blame the Turbo kit. Reading between the lines on these situations its usually very apparent that the problem is the nut behind the wheel. There is a reason why APS or Turbonetics boldly state "Do not exceed 8.5 PSI or engine failure can occur!", There is always some wing nut who blindly disregards the warning and jacks it up to 12 or 14 PSI and pops his engine then jumps on this board and either bags on the Turbo kit or the weak stock nissan engine. Then proceeds to tell us all sob story how he's out $5 to 7 grand to rebuild his engine. Then they turn around and do it again! That is idiocy at its finest. :icon22: |
