Planning on doing the TT thing. Need some Help.
Hello all :)
The time has come. Ive had the Z for about 3 years now and its time to start the research on the turbos. Right now im very very new to the Turbo Z scene. Ive done some misc. reading here in the FI section but im having a hard time getting all this stuff down in my head. As of now im planning on yanking the block in about 1 year and building the motor + turbo. Im leaning towards the Greddy TT kit as of now b/c ive heard allot of good things about the greddy when building the motor is the route being taken. I also like the way the Greddy looks, that being it looks as if it was made well w/ good craftsmanship on all the parts from the piping on down. Im pretty sure ill be going with the greddy as of now but this part isnt really the part im needing suggestinos with. its mostly in regards to what i need/should look into for the motor build. Are there any good parts that you guys recommend i look into for building the motor? By this im refering to brands of camshafts, pistons, injectors, pump, rods, fuel rail.. etc. what have u guys had/seen success with? This is a list i found a vendor on here offering, i looked over the parts and they look good. anything on here you guys suggest goin different with, i figure this is a good place to start.. Greddy Twin Turbo Kit Greddy Intercooler AAM Spec Oil Pan Spacer AAM Spec Oil Pan Spacer Oil Return Lines HKS SSQV Blow Off Valve NGK Platinum One Step Colder Plugs Walbro 255LPH Fuel Pump AAM Spec Fuel Return System Greddy 3.0kg/cm2 Pressure Sensor Greddy Pressure Sensor Harness as for engine management im looking @ going UTEC. thanx PS: im not afraid to spend in the neighborhood of 10 grand so let the suggestions rip :D I may be underestimating how much it costs to build a solid motor but last time i checked 13k could get you where most people wouldnt mind being. -B- |
You're talking 10 grand for the tt kit, supporting mods, and gauges, or including a built motor? It's going to cost you over 10k for that setup and install alone.
You also need to add in the price of the UTEC with accessories, and a clutch/flywheel if you don't already have one. As far as building the motor, it really depends on what your power goals are with it. You can build a motor for anywhere between $3.5k-$15k+ depending on how you do it. |
hmm. allright. well. in regards to power im looking to be around the 500 range. I saw that kit listed with install on this very board with aam fuel management for 13k.
Im going to be doing the install myself so im curious how much that will knock off... |

I'm not really sure how much the going price is now for a TT install, but I'd assume it was in the area of $2000.
That kit Sharif is offering is a good price, but just consider what you'll need to add on top of it. (these prices are ballpark) UTEC + harness - ~$1000 Gauges - ~$600 Tuning - ~$500 Boost Controller - $150-600 This puts us at about $10,000 with no labor or unforseen tool/part expenses that are bound to happen. Other things you'll need to consider, but I'm not sure if you have... Turbo Timer - $100 Clutch/Flywheel - ~$800-2500 Exhaust - $800-2000 Test Pipes - $150-300 Plenum Mod - $200-400 To reach 500whp, you would be okay with a built short block. With Eagle rods, and depending on whether or not you're pulling the motor, doing cams, and doing the work yourself, you can get away with $3500-8000 to get it done. Are you going to build your own motor? |
wow taurran thanx allot for the engaging posts.
The asnwer to your last question is yes. im goign to try to build my own motor essentially. Ive pretty much installed everything and done motor work on all sorts of cars so i know my way with a wrench, this will be my first time doing a turbo tho but i have lots of a help and not in a big rush so i think i can easily handle it especially with the motor out and up on a mount. -B- |
Why the Greddy pressure sensor and harness if your not using the EM and going with UTEC? You won tneed those, you can just run a UTEC with a MAP sensor...and this will cost you way above $10K

It was probably just overlooked. its quite obvious that if were running a utec you arent going tot need the greddy EM parts. like what are u thinking alberto... 15K?? -B- |
At least...things at these levels add up very quickly.
|
Do you really need the oil pan spacer since the greddy kit comes with a new pan?

Yea aint that the truth! :icon11: Well. maybe ill stick to a budget like 10k for all the intial work. then upgrade other small things as time goes on while im driving the car... This car will be pretty much a weekend/club/show car so im not worried about putting lots of miles on the kit etc. |

any pics of the kit noah?

Thought you had a TN kit already?

Ok im bumping this thread cuz im really close to having the funds to purchase that TT kit with the Utec from Shariff.
Here is my question. The kit involves some internal upgrading. How difficult is this to do urself. And i dont want to hear an answer from people who HAVENT done it themself. I dont care if you watched someone do it. i just want to know from people who HAVE done it and how difficult it is and what it is that difficult. Thanx -B- |

Time for you to set your plans in stone and decide once and for all! |
