Let's have a mileage update!!!

Let's have a mileage update with cars on stock block with 400+ whp.

Questions to address:
1. When was turbo installed?
2. What kit was installed?
3. What mods are supporting turbo?
4. What kit are you running?

Just curious, who tuned you car if engine mgmt is being used?

Craig

since we are asking questions can someone settle a bet for me with a friend

do turbochargers increase mpg in the city?

do superchargers increase it on the highway?

do either increase mpg?

Those questions are too debating... It might be increased when you are off boost with a turbocharger with a good tune but hell no when you are in boost. I really don't know what to say about the supercharger but too much variations and generally it is a no because you always want to get on it :D

Turbonetics installed around 45k.
Around 4k miles in 2 months (true daily driver)
running aam plenum spacer and greddy evo II (tanabe hyper coming)
Running strong so far!

It's been awhile but I think no energy is lost or created but converted from one form to another.

So, I don't think you can get better mileage with a supercharger in city or highway driving assuming equally good tunes and mod level. There is added parasitic loss with the supercharger (heat, sound, belt slippage, friction, etc.) which is energy [fuel] wasted for not driving. It took extra fuel to overcome the parasitic loss since it is spun directly by the motor.

With a Turbo, it is possible since the turbines are spun using wasted exhaust gas. This form of energy [moving exhaust gas & heat] can be converted for the purpose of propelling the car so in essence improving the gas mileage/efficiency. The added pressure inside the combustion chamber from the turbo(s) is energy used to help spin the motor and this came [mostly] from by-product/wasted energy. So it is possible to get better mileage with city & highway driving with a Turbo at around lean conditions (moderate boost) at the same or better a/f ratio as n/a and otherwise designed efficiently.

At moderate boost level, I get at least as good mileage as stock with the Stillen s/c'er but this is with freer flowing intake/exhaust and stronger spark and other mods.

Sorry, just noticed that this is for 400+whp which I'm not, just the lowly 400+hp.
