Ok I read about the R888's, but...(intended for folks with over 550 whp DD)

First off, I don't have a copy of my dyno sheet, so I won't quote my numbers yet.

Now to the meat of this, I have stock half shafts and to be honest I am afraid the R888's that Sharif referred to on his thread are going to destroy them, so what tire and size would you guys recommend?

I have 18" inch rims. I searched and found some guys are running 305 series tires, but what are the big dawgs running?

From what I have read, I am way to confused to make a decision, so enlighten me and vendors PM me with prices, my tires are toast.

I am white smoking my Potenzas in 4th :icon11: :icon11:. Sideways at 100+ is a little too crazy for me!

Thanks

I would like to see a list of your build up?

What are the specs (width, offsets) of your rear wheels? What size tires are you running up front?

i am running 305/30/19s and i also upgraded my axels...but 295s shoudl be fine... a lot depends on what offsets you have

sentry65 Mar 25, 2008 04:40 PM

there's no whp requirement for these tires

they'd help you get better traction even NA doing big clutch dump launches, and of course the handling will increase a ton

XKR Mar 25, 2008 05:29 PM

295 to 305 is a good size.

With that much TQ and stock axle....I would not use the R888 unless you are going to upgrade them.

I am running 305 x 25x 20 Yokahama's Advan ....and they are good for the first 2000 miles with over 600whp/DD. I upgraded the axle's just in case.

18 X 9.5. I am not sure about offset. Stock?
245/40/18 fronts

Sorry about the delay answering these responses, we have been working on a diesel that I swear would probably hand me my a$$ from any speed to 120 mph on my high boost!

I had 295/30/19 ADVAN Sport tires and I have a similar setup with 565 whp and I could spin them through 3rd and some of 4th. The increased width won't do anything for you.

If the R888's didn't offer any better traction for me than the ADVAN's then I was going to get a tune for much less power which is what I am suggesting for you. If you can't put it to the ground then there is no use in having it is there unless you want bragging rights.

You won't break an axle with the R888's. Hard launching is where you are going to break an axle and the R888's won't get you to launch like a drag radial running 12psi. You still won't get any traction in first gear with the Toyo's. Your stock axles will be fine.

If your worried about streetablitity and also want good traction then go with the 305/35/18 nitto DRs. I had these for 4k miles with 600 wheel and it would hook 2nd gear IF HOT OUTSIDE. If it was 50s then it would spin some around 6k, but 3rd was solid. Really not a lot of options for 18s, but I would put money on these hooking better then the R888's in straight line acceleration.

The best options are going to be from Mickey Thompson, which the sizes we need for our car will not be out till June cause they got flagged by the DOT people. M&H is also working on a 18 DR that will should hook like crazy, but they will all be 28 inchs tall. The M&H should be out before the mickey tho.

I tried the Nittos at the track and with 12-15psi in the tires and heating them up good I could never get them to dead hook in first, but second was never an issue. The nittos are more of a street DR then a true DR, from my point of view.

And the people complaining about axles...dont listen to them. Dont replace them until they break. Even if they break I would just put a stock one back in for 100 bucks.

305's are too wide for a 9.5" wide wheel.

No their not.

I see you convinced yourself of that. Good luck convincing someone else.

it will fit but they will buldge out, better have some weak offsets to able to fit that size with buldge.

Do you have 9.5 in wheels? If it didn't stick out to far, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Any pics of 295/35/18 or 305/30/18's in the back?

Philthy Mar 26, 2008 06:06 AM

Tires are certainly a great investment, but will not solve your problem completely if you haven't addressed suspension components & setup...

I wont call this person a friend.....but someone I met at a one of the tracks here in TX would disagree with you. He had a 2005 G TT ......I think it was a Greddy....second run, and he had to be pushed off the track.....Broken Axle.

06Track Mar 26, 2008 06:46 AM

Sharif put some Proxy R888's on my car two weeks ago, and
they hook great. I have 540 RWHP on his dyno and these
tires are soft, so I think there is a lot less shock to the drive train
because of their design. On mild pulls through the gears, a look in
rear view mirror lets you know they bite, but not violently so.

Is this why I can't find Mickey Thompson ET Streets Radials anywhere? Any more info on this?
