So that extra 0.5 made it too lean that it blew? Damn, makes me realize how important a good tune is.

On a stock motor, that's about right.

On a built motor you have a little more leeway with the AFR's, but not a whole lot. Of course this doesn't take into account many other factors such as ignition timing. I'm a believer that it's better to tune to a slightly rich AFR (11.5~) and make power from adding timing to a few degrees under the knock threshold.

I know that many tuners that deal with other types of motors swear by tuning to 12:1 AFR but it doesn't hold true on this car.

So if I do pull the trigger on a vortech kit, I should tell my tuner to tune to 11.5 A:F..

Nexx...your car is now in good hands now, and the results will be
well worth the trouble you went through. Being able to beat on the
Z's, they have to be built by one of the best. Nothing like kicking
*** and not having to worry about it.

Good luck and looking forward to your finished ride.

when were you hitting 11.5? you can safely hit 14 at cruise, so it all depends. I'd say it could've been the tune 'generally' and not specifically cuz it was 12?

It sounds more like a timing issue than an A/F issue. I accidentally made a full pass on my vortech with a 13 AF ratio because the stupid air temp correction was way off. Luckily the timing was rather conservative so i didn't blow the hell up

this was with a 2.87 pulley btw

yes, he exact words, "i doubt 12:1 A/F had anything to do with it." i never accused him of anything. i just mentioned to him that 12:1 was usually looked upon as too lean on the forums and thats how he responded. i'd rather leave his name out of it because he did very good work, the tune was very smooth, he just had some bad information, plus he isnt tuning or working on cars anymore. his shop is going into retail and wholesale instead.

Very sorry to hear. You're certainly in good hands now with Sharif. They've done oustanding work on my car over the years.

Go with quality components so you only have to do it once. HKS injectors are pricey but worth it IMO.

Good luck!
