Julian doesn't have anything on this... IP 1300whp breakage
We have really been pushing our green 350Z lately, now running 8's and over 160mph in the 1/4 mile. Keep in mind we did not go the stripped out race car route - our full interior Z weighs in at 3400 pounds.
This weekend we drove up to Atco NJ where we found the limits of the off-shelf BC stroker rods. At an estimated 1300whp, two rods came apart. Now we are working on a rod option that will hold 1500whp or more reliably. We were very happy to tear this motor down and find the remains in excellent condition. My biggest fear on the VQ is keeping the crank in the bottom of it at high horsepower (which is why we have our girdle on the bottom). I was relieved to find everything in awesome shape. With over 100 single digit passes the bearings looked perfect, the mains were all still intact and free of fractures, and we never had any head lift issues with the stock-size L19 head studs. A few pictures from the weekend and the carnage: http://www.injectedperformance.com/h...r%20bridge.jpg http://www.injectedperformance.com/h...at%20track.jpg http://www.injectedperformance.com/h...5%20block1.jpg http://www.injectedperformance.com/h...20catchpan.jpg http://www.injectedperformance.com/h...5%20block2.jpg http://www.injectedperformance.com/h...%20pistons.jpg |

wow, breaking BC rods like it was made out of butta. impressive.
|
Wow, gotta love the carnage.
Crazy that the BC rods let loose but the L19s are still holding the heads tight. Should let a lot of people sleep better at night, lol. |
wow that is just crazy. We may have a new winner for the title Parts murderer.:icon17:
|
Thats sick!!!!!!!!!
|
Your tralior is SICK!!!! Is that the one your bringing down to the airstrip event?
Damn, that was a great run with this current setup. Those are the brian crower rods right? Not the actual crower rods? |
umm, yeah, wow. Not a mechanic but would say that's broken
|
Awww crap - sorry to hear. :( But thanks for sharing and testing the limits of multiple pieces of technology.
Also I was hoping to see it in 2 wks at ZdayZ Top Dawg run. :o Are those the two rear or two front? Any significance in your mind with the location? The other rods show no signs of failure? Best wishes for a speedy block recovery! Thinking about Pauter perhaps, on the rebuild? |

Awesome.
L19's FTW! :) |
Rods #5 and #6 broke on the small end. Both pins were still in the pistons, and one even looks undamaged. Rods and pistons 1-4 appear perfect, along with the crank. Oil pressure was good even as the block was flying apart.
I was going 85mph when it happened; thank goodness for the catch pan under the motor to catch most of the oil and allow me to get off the track safely. Jayz - not sure yet. We will release details of the new motor when we have it finalized. |
That is the greatest epic car motor kill I have ever seen.
Did you suddenly go lean before the shelling? |

It is going to look great out front by the walk with some flowers growing out of the cylinders :)
I hit the spray at 1500rpm in 6th gear... could that be it? JK, but great guess. This happened at 7500rpm.
