BFG DR's.....Overkill???

I'm looking at a couple different sets of LMGT4's and will be getting a set this week. I was thinking about getting a pair of 275 DR's for the rear to help keep the back end. I put down 416hp and 374tq about 2 months ago when I had everything installed. Are DR's too much??? Could I maybe go w/ maybe something a little less aggressive? I have NO traction when boosting until at least 3rd and sometimes loose it then. I'd like to have 2nd at least.

Drag radials don't really help on the street. They're not much better cold than the average street tire unless you're burning out and launching like you're at the drag strip.

I'm strongly considering selling off my barely used set of 295/35/18 BFG DR's.

Hmmm, thanks Craig. Guess maybe I should look at the R888's or R1's.

mmmm r888's :)

i have R888 on my car 18x10 295/30 on the rear ... the car don't break loose at all and am putting down 477whp

Zero traction until third and still sometime break loose, i'm looking into the R888

you guys need to get turbos like mine JWT 850.

Traction in third with 620hp! All day long! with KDW 285.

What good is all that power (quick spool up) if you cant even use it??

They dont help on the street you say? That is a lie if I ever heard one. True cold, neither street tire or DR will hook for ****, but my 305 nittos hooked 606rwhp on a warm day in 2nd. They are still a stickier compound and softer sidewall then a normal street tire, so they will help traction period.

+1

My DR's hook up nice on high boost, on the street.

OK, but you just got done saying you hook w/ KDW's too. So your vote doesn't count! J/K lol

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I could get it to hook the quick spool will be beneficial won't it?

just a note on the toyo R888...

i had 295 35 18 Pirelli P Zero Corsa r-compound tires on my 18 x 10.5 wheels.

I bought the R888 in a 305 35 18, expecting it to be just a hair wider than my previous 295's. Negative, they are about 1.5" wider than the 295 pirelli, and they hardly fit on the rim.

So I just wanted to mention that the R888 are quite a bit wider than other tires of the same specs.

+1 to what thawk said...I have driven around on my M/T dr's and traction is much better than my Toyos(R1).....The only problem with the dr's on the street is that at 100mph+ the back end gets a little squirrely.

That couldn't be further from the truth. My 295 BFG DRs hook up AWESOME in every gear as long as the ambient temp is above 40 degrees F. I'm on my second set of BFG DRs as my street tire and I don't know if I could go back to a normal street tire.

I'll buy them if you're selling....

+1 dude

I have pretty decent traction from 3rd gear on with my street tires. I am running t3/t4 60-1 turbos which don't spool up till about 4k rpm.

awesome street tire...I run these when I dont have my BFG DRs on which is the majority of the time...

bridgestone re-01r's super sticky and great handling characteristics on the street. 140 treadwear compared to the bfg's 300 treawear on the kdw. the r888's look nice and have a 100 treadwear rating but they seem more of a D.O.T track tire than a street tire. just my .02

the 888 are a dot track tire, but I can tell you from experience that they hook up hard!!!! I took a ride in Jet Pilot's car with these tires and they completeyl hooked in 2nd gear. no squirming or anything. I thought I was going to :icon16: as my stomach got shoved into my back!!!!

:+1: A few people have told me that...and not only on the G/Z. I wont risk traction at high speed in exchange for traction off the line.

Anyway...I would rather have some tire slippage at the line than for it to hook up hard and take out my tranny or diff.

doug May 12, 2008 10:54 AM

Potenza RE050A .. great traction in 2nd gear with 645 whp
