Brake Boosting FTW!!11

I read through that whole 20 page novel posted a while back on brake boosting and it seems like nobody chimed in and tried to do anything.

So today I finally hooked up a push button SPST switch up to wire 101 on the ecu and it work perfectly. The car will now do a burnout and brake boost with the switch off, and best of all the brake lights still work. I havent got a chance to see if the cruise control is affected and I couldn't tell you if I threw a CEL because mine is on permanantly.

I can now build 6-7 psi in a 3rd gear roll

thanks to Hal and Phunk for answering my questions

I have the module, it makes the car do funny things at part throttle. I'll be pulling it out. I dont feel like brake boosting on my kit is that much of an advantage it spools so fast.

yeah with the standard greddy they spool up pretty fast, but with the APS extreme and bigger single turbos coming out now itll work just fine.

What exactly was it doing at part throttle?

Dynosty 09-11-2008 08:05 PM

Glad to hear you got it working. I still vote you add line locks for the burnout :)

SnyperZ 09-11-2008 09:24 PM

Do you have a pic of where you modded it?

i modded it on the patch harness for the haltech. Hal confirmed that the haltech didnt use pin 101 so I could just cut it anywhere on the harness. Then I ran a long wire to the driver side and hooked up a push button switch by my right knee

for those who don't know what brake boosting while driving is...could someone give a 101 here?

Dynosty 09-12-2008 05:51 AM

^ To eliminate turbo lag from a roll, you can balance the brakes and apply throttle to spool turbos while maintaining a constant speed. When you let off the brakes the car is already in boost and rockets forward. Very helpful for racing from a roll.

mikez97 09-12-2008 05:53 AM

would this be possible for me?
i haz haltech.

Dynosty 09-12-2008 06:16 AM

^ It is not Haltech specific, but sure you can do it too :)

mikez97 09-12-2008 06:17 AM

i was planning on line locks also.

+1
I haz itz too

I didn't want to splice any wires so I just put a switch on my brake light fuse but that disable my brake lights:mad: This is very helpful for Rear-Mount or ST/TT with big a$$ turbo but I'm always afraid that the other car might slam on my when I break:icon14: Also after awhile VDC/Airbag light comes on in my case..lol

Blackbird CPV35 09-12-2008 06:29 AM

yeah I did the brake light fuse thing too before but I wasn't digging the whole brake light issue. at least with this I can still have brakes

mikez97 09-12-2008 06:33 AM

could you do a write up with pics maybe?

UMW350Z 09-12-2008 06:55 AM

sounds difficult to pull off perfectly...i should get on this so i can crush this turbo civic when i go back to my home town. My friend is talking a lot of ****....I used to kill him from starts, but highway races he would take me (he is 350 hpr...i was 260)...gotta love having the same torque but earlier!

Interesting. Perhaps it was sending the "keep alive" pulses during part throttle. A simple timer switch that disconnects pin 101 for a fixed period of time (30 secs?) seems like the best bet. I haven't seen any small switches that operate in this fashion - perhaps a timer circuit required - thoughts Kevin?
