Can't bush built rods past 550hp?

Ok so long story short, I'm on a local forum. So we are talking about built VQs and of course what fails first on them and @ what power level and the durability of the engine; one of the guys who as a SR20DET 240 say

"indeed

vq35 is one of the sickest 6cyls on the market"

Alright everything is still cool...until I come back and read this from some guy in Dallas changes the quote to read this:

"vq35 is one of the quickest 6cyls on the market to break under high stress"

So I'm like WTF is this about and try to figure out what is he talking about.

This is what he says:

"Local guy here runs built VQ with the HKS twin-turbo kit. He is on his 3rd set of rods, don't know what brand they are. Can't push past 550whp."

WTF?????? Really????????? This has got to be the craziest thing I've heard??? I just completly dumb founded. I think I'm even more confused just do to the fact I'm alittle drunk right now too! But still forged rods in a VQ that can't be pushed over 550hp? WTF??

blasian Sep 17, 2008 09:32 PM

Hmmm, considering I have a friend here pushing near 600whp for damn near a year... that's kinda funny :icon17:

JS04 Sep 17, 2008 10:26 PM

^^^I know. I had to read what the guy was typing like 4 times just to make sure I read that right. LOLOLOL. :icon17:

I don't think there's all that many members here with more than 550whp to start.

Really? I find it way more common for members to be in the 5xxwhp range than 4xxwhp range compared to what it was years ago. Hell, the only two TT'd Zs where I'm living now are both pushing more than 550whp.

Any aftermarket rod on the market will handle 550 rwhp.

If he cant get over 550whp without failing...I am sure he is using stock internals.

550whp is considered low boost to this community now

SpoilsofWar Sep 18, 2008 08:46 AM

You will have a hard time breaking any aftermarket rod out there for the VQ. A really hard time. The only documented failure I know of was the 1200hp IP drag car that broke one of its stroker rods.
