Doesn't ATI already tune their Prochargers?
 

I have been reading here that people have been doing 15-20 dyno runs once they install the Procharger because you have to tune it to get the best gains.

I would think that ATI would have tuned it when they developed it for the best gains.

So then, if you just install the supercharger and use the initial settings of whatever ATI recommends what is the starting rear wheel HP?

I know "after tuning" one guy is at like 349 and another is at 362 thereabouts.

My question would be what was the hp "before tuning"?

Its tuning the FMU for the extra fuel pump. Its not cut and dry. Plan on a couple hundred extra $$ for dyno time.

There are to ATI kits available. One is pretty much a straight, pre-tuned bolt-on. Though, even with that kit, to ensure everything is running as it should and to maximize your HP for your investment, some tuning should be done.

For the more gung-ho, there is a tuner kit that leaves off the FMU and some other components. This is geared to those who really want to tweak the system and possibly do other mods to carry the motor well past the 350rwhp mark.

could you take the FMU info from someone and use it on a different car?

Maybe as a starting point, but every car is different and you may have other factors to take into consideration such as ambient temperature, altitude above sea level, and so on. Best bet is to do some tuning when making this kind of upgrade, even if it is an "out of the box" mod.

...or you can wait for a performance ECU coded for use with the ATI ProCharger and local gas octane availabilty.

There are so many factors when dealing with tuning. ATI only can do so much to make the system run on a stock application. Since every car is going to react differently due to so many factors like elevation, temperature, aftermarket modifications, etc. it will be very difficult to get the perfect tuning for the your particular car. They only can design their systems to work on a vehicle under curtain conditions.

So when you do get tuning done, all this enables you to do is maximize the HP potential, thus increasing reliability, HP and torque gains. It is not needed since the system will work right out the box, but if you want to maximize the potential then this is essential.

You can use an FMU from another vehicle, but there are a couple things you must take into consideration. One, this car has a returnless fuel system so a standard FMU will not work. You will need to get an electronic one. And two, FMU’s are recalibrated for injector size. So you must have the proper recalibration disc in order for it to run properly.

After a while though, the car would have to be retuned, right?


So would something like Power Perfect's ECU, one that can be reprogrammed, be perfect for ATI procharger?

OK, so let's say you do need some tuning for atmosphere, elevation and what not. What type of hp will it make out of the box vs what will it make once it is tuned.

The tuned cars after dyno are 349 to 362 from what I've seen.

What is it out of the box? 330? 340?

How much hp is gained by tuning? Can anyone answer that?

Force Induction or Bone Stock, you will need to tune your car don't matter what. There really is no correct answer for it, since every car will react differently. You may see a 5 HP gain all the way to 55HP gain. Over all, when you do fine-tune your engine, it makes it more reliable and it enables you to maximize the HP and torque potential.
