JSC Speed 350Z Twin Turbo Install
We began our twin turbo install a week or so back on our 05 touring and have made a lot of progress. We chose the APS Tuner kit and have not been disappointed, the kit is incredibly complete and everything fits great.
The goal for the car for now will be a mid 300whp street car with lower boost levels and a conserative tune. We will be using Deatschwerks 600cc injectors so we will have plenty of fuel for more power in the near future. We also have a built motor almost finished, but have decided to hold out and see what kind of numbers we can make on the stock motor first. Here is the basic mod list for the car, progress will be updated constantly so keep checking back!! that intercooler is bigger than my pillow. nice going. I'm surprise to see the reinforcement bar (for the bumper) will fit. what's biggest difference in going with an external wastegate? just a powerband consistency? is it a lot of work to have an internal swapped to an external?
|
Thanks for the comments, the external wastegates provide better boost control and do not allow for as much boost creep like an internal wastegate would have. This was very important to us because we are trying to keep this stock motor intact and want to keep the boost levels controlled.
Converting a internal wastegated turbo to an external requires welding the flapper door on the exhaust outlet of the turbo shut. You then need to either change the exhaust manifold or use an adaptor for the external wastegate depending on application. |
Any up dates guys as im looking into the new tuner kit with external gates!
Looks like a good install too with good heat protection. |
Looking good for sure.
|
Hey guys! Good to see this project getting underway.
|
Looking good guys, nice work, poppa Shawn is proud haha
|
Thanks guys!
It looks like we will be firing the car up later today and we should have more pics then. |
Bump for more pics and update!
|
bump for updates! this has to be running by now! lol.
|
We have it running, but are fixing a few issues we ran into and then the car has to be tuned. We will be at the SEMA show all week, so once we get back we will have some real updates with pictures.
|
Good news.

Up to the top!

Very nice. APS makes good kits. Given the location of your air intake, I trust that you are not in a location prone to floading in the roadway. :)

What were the issues you ran into? I am doing a similar project with the same turbo system and am looking to avoid as many pitfalls as possible. Thanks.

As an update (chart to follow) the Z made 318whp on a dynojet @ 4psi, we started here as a baseline to work out any kinks, will be dynoing again shortly with more boost. Car has about 1000 miles on it now post-turbo.
|
Great news. JCS do you know if the APS tuner kit will fit a RHD car??
Also how do these new turbos spool?? Full boost by 3K rpm?? |
