Powerlab's Uppipe to the turbo (Warning: Big Pictures)
Trying to get this uppipe in and there's a flange where a bolt goes in...
http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/6239/dsc00802nm4.jpg So.. this is the only feasible place to put it right? http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/6791/dsc00800nj1.jpg But when I put it in, it doesn't even want to tighten down, PLUS the uppipe is situated in a way it will never bolt to the turbo... http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/1562/dsc00803wz7.jpg So.. if I place the pipe against the mid-uppipe and see just how they want me to put this... there's no bolt nearby I can use to keep it in.. http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/5119/dsc00804ji2.jpg I think I have the wrong bolt. Can anyone tell me if there's something I don't know here? Maybe a hidden bolt? I'm going back under the car. Thanks for any help! |

http://www.handsonkitchen.com/pics/install/31.jpg http://www.handsonkitchen.com/pics/install/38.jpg I remember that uppipe being a very straight forward install, how do you know it wont line up with the turbo? your turbo shouldn't be on yet. Check out my pics, I don't have pictures of the bolt up point but it IS where the A/C bolt is, I can't remember if its the top bolt on the bottom bolt, but I don't remember thinking twice about if it did or did not bolt to one or the other, I remember it lining up with whatever hole was correct. |
P.S don't tighten any of your piping till everything is installed, this helps with tweeking things as you go.

Thanks Jeffie, you've been a big help to me. |

Did you use that same long, 14mm bolt that I unbolted in my above pic? Because if that is the correct bolt, then it must be the mid-uppipe that is mounted wrong somehow.
Thanks Jeffie, you've been a big help to me. again, keep everything lose (band clamps and such) then pay careful attention when tightening them for the final time, they can be tricky to get right but once they're tightened correctly they're awesome! |
I think I've finally figured it out. Thanks to Jeffie and Han@Intense!. Here is the picture which shows exactly which bolt It's supposed to be mounted on.

http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/4...noilpanko4.jpg I went and bought the perfect tool for this.. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00994817000P It has a hammer end, and It's a good thing I didn't pick up the one that was really wide. If I did, then I would have run into trouble around the oil line area and behind the oil pan where you can't fit your hand. edit: Oh did you think that was my car? That was just a picture sent to me from the "beta test" of the kit I think. |
This kit is starting to scare me we are having one installed right now and from what I have been reading there seems to be some fitment issues with most of the kits that have been installed . We ran a JWT kit for a couple of years with no issues and super reliable hope we get close to the same service with power lab.

3 inch piping isn't an issue it's just something you have to work around in order to get better response and power. It just happens to suck that the Z has basically no room for anything in the engine bay.
|
I found out that my issue is I have a DIFFERENT A/C compressor! That's why the up-pipe won't bolt up.
If you see on the first image, there's supposed to be a second bolt but there's just a tab that sticks out. No way in heck i'm going to bolt anything to that. |

Called them, they said they would contact me back within like 5 minutes but it's been over an hour. This must be a big issue.
So.. here's what happened. They are in the process of moving so they can't fab one up for me until after Thanksgiving. I can't do that because my tune was scheduled for Dec. 1... So.. I will have to take their second option and get one custom fabbed for me at the shop. So between July 2002 and October 2002 the Z's that were produced had this different AC compressor... All of them now use the same 3 bolt design. |
wow... unlucky...props for understanding and being reasonable
