Vortech / HKS / Stillen idle sound, loud???
Hi all,
Deciding between various SC's, pretty sure I've narrowed it to one, but wanted to see if I hear a few of them at idle to hear how loud they are. I gather the Vortechs are pretty noisy on our cars, especially at idle / low RPM's. I will hear one in person soon hopefuly, but wanted to see if you guys happen to have any audio files specifically: 1)when just starting the motor 2) then having it in idle 3) and starting to drive off, less than 10 mph in driveway I guess the same thing for HKS and Stillen. I've seen some videos on this forum and youtube, but most were not great quality, or didn't capture the sound out in street. As I'll be leaving to work at 12-4 am time often, gotta get a system that's not gonna annoy the heck out of the neighbors. Thanks all in advance, I hope this is not too noob of a question |
check out u tube and u will hear how a vortech sounds like at idle.

Vortech sounds sweet!! Just get your idle bumped to about 850 RPMS to eliminate the rattle. Love mine :)

how's your gas milage?

thinking of a used vortech vs concealed TT
|
ok heard it, thanks so much for posting it.
it does sound like a jet :) and pretty noticeable and definitely distinct sounding. wonder if i keep the rpm less than 2k while getting out of the parking lot / complex, maybe the neighbors wont hate me. if hks is quiter? (starting to think about TT), but then again in southern cali, i might be asking for it from the cops ps, any dyno's on that vortech? |

Have you considered the Procharger? It is really loud at idle! Probably the loudest of them all.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rv7SLwSDvaI is stillen stage 2 pretty much fallen out of style? 350Z400rwhp, thanks for the dyno. are you changing the fuel management when changing your pulley to 2.87? |
vortech complete kit here with ss box and fmu, i am still on stock injectors for the moment, made 394whp dyno jet, but this dyno jet reads lower than most...when i start it up cold its not loud till it idles down to abotu 1100rpm then whistles very loud until it drops below...it is kinda loud at idle but driving around cruising when its venting air and not boosting its real loud..i love it though...but for some that don't u can get the filter that adapts to the bypass valve
dyno graph 3.12 vortech https://my350z.com/forum/attachments...t-aam-dyno.jpg |

dyno graph 3.12 vortech https://my350z.com/forum/attachments...t-aam-dyno.jpg wish i could hear one, i live in san diego and no luck so far hearing sc on the z. i heard it on a mustang, but the car had test pipes / loud exhaust, so it was hard to tell. plus it was a different blower all together, so not a fair test. |
u can't compare the sound with anything else really..it has its own...the car is not what becomes loud, the blowers bypass valve whistles kinda loud but nothing crazy and only when the car is cold and is warming up as the rpm's drop to 1100rpm it makes a whistling noise, couple revs and it goes away as the rpm's get lower and the car gets warm...after its warm it doesn't do it...actually i have a vid showing the whistle on a cold start ill link it here in a sec. and it was still with my stock cats on so the car isn't that loud in this vid..
