Another update to my build : )

Well I'm sure most of you on here are by now farmilar with what was once my flamed "dreamer" thread that I created last year stating my goals of making 700whp using a built short block, stock heads & cams, Utec EMS, and the greddy tt kit w/custom 20g compressor wheels while setting a cap to how much I was going to spend. I am also sure most of you remember me hitting that goal 9 months ago by making 712whp/676wq on Q16 @ 23psi. The purpose of this thread is an update on the car and how it has been for the past 9 months and some changes that have occured. I feel that by sharing my experience so far could help shed light to more DIY builds and to help further the f/i world of the Z....

For the past 9 months I have been beating the living crap out of my car weekend after weekend, this includes taking it to the track (where I still suck, but hey atleast it's getting there). The car has for the most part been running faily great minus some vacum leaks that ended up making a huge difference(well duh ha) It turns out that the entire time the car has been running on a built motor it has had a vacum leak. Now I can't explain why the car ran so well, and why it never showed a leak in terms of vacum @ idle, but it turns out that I had 2 pinhead sized holes in a weld on my upper i/c pipe right after my MAF. We found them this past month when doing a smoke test to check for any leaks (I had a hunch that there was a leak due to not being able to turn the boost past 23psi) so we pulled the pipe off, re-welded it and sent it back to the dyno. The results I think speak for themselves. I am now running less boost for my "high boost" pump gas numbers 19psi down from 21psi as well as my race gas numbers 21psi down from 23 all while making more power (and a lot more at that under the curve)

New numbers....

Pump Gas:
13psi: 591whp/584wtq
19psi: 662whp/646wtq

Q16:
21psi: 725whp/689wtq

http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/6...9626144210.jpg

Unfortunatly we could not run the car above 21/22 psi on the dyno without the dyno going into "self preservation" mode. Since the dyno is hub based (and before anyone starts the BS talk about my numbers being high or inflated you must first either trap over 127mph in the 1/4 mile while missing 3rd twice, or come see me :icon38: ) it will shut down on anything above 700+wtq. So we stopped there. There are a a few other shops in the area that have dyno's but none that are load based so I will not be tuning on any of them. As far as the car feels, it is really out of this world and then some :icon21:

So now going forward I have no more plans of making anymore power, I think I have proved my point and hopefully can help others achieve similar power. I will be hitting the drag strip this spring which is what my next focus area with all intentions of breaking into 10 second passes. Hopefully I can improve my driving skills considerably and acheive my next goal. Stay tuned......

And now a few pics of the car....

original 18g's with upgraded 20g compressor wheels. Blouch Turbo did them...

nice. Gives me inspiration to get my car tuned to 20 psi!

what clutch do you run?

I remembered your thread about dreamer goal LOL. You did proved most of the un-believers. Nice built for the low money cap. FWIW, my Greddy TT 18G made 638 WHP and 670 Torque on the hub dyno at about 21 psi. Then re-dynoed on Hal@ip 527 whp and same area of torque :) . Not challenging this "(and before anyone starts the BS talk about my numbers being high or inflated you must first either trap over 127mph in the 1/4 mile while missing 3rd twice, or come see me ) ". Nice numbers on the new tunes.

Nice. Looks like you have one hell of a fun car. Enjoy it.

Please tell me the CTS in the background is next for mods. :)

Curious what is your best time to date?

Nice to see somebody actually driving their car and that its holding up, even better you did all the work. Good job.

Driven1 I wish I could mod the cts-v, its my dads so for now no mods coming...althought I am slowly working him to doing a pulley & reflash :icon39:

Nice numbers!

Good looking car and solid power curve. Congrats. :) Surprised pin hole leaks lost you 2 psi but glad you got it sorted out!

litoflow 03-23-2011 07:52 PM

Congrats man.. nice to see you made it :)

tylerxfire 03-23-2011 08:24 PM

very nice..i would love to give it a nice pass at the track...get some more seat time and rip that *****..what tires u using at the track?

rh_334 03-24-2011 05:31 AM

Congrats

Can you give us more info on the spending cap you set? I know its in the other thread but figured more may be curious.

binder 03-24-2011 05:34 AM

I love that tq curve. almost 700tq at 4200 rpm. Kinda makes me wish i went with greddy twins but im very happy with my big single.

It's a bioch trying to get it to hook with that kind of power on the track isn't it? My 60' is my huge weakness.

I'm going to try some 16" rims with some tall sidewall bias ply tires this summer. 18" drag radials just spin and spin. :)
