Tonyzs/c03 build thread
Well I figure its about time to start my build thread... Its been a very long and complicated road, but I think that I'm seeing light at the end of the tunnel, its either that or the oncoming train :gotowned:
I bought the car with a Vortech V-2 supercharger on it and immediately added larger injectors, fuel pump, smaller pulley, and a Utec. It was a blast to drive, untill the motor blew :( but I was about to head off on deployment so I figured that it was time to go for broke and do a full build and twins. The car spent almost two years in the shop, I had several headaches with them and ultimately the car was "finished" according to them and I went to have it tuned and broke a cam . Had them fix that problem only to put the car on the Dyno again and the oil pump failed and toasted my turbos . So rather than take it back again and wait for them to get their poop in a pile I decided that I would take matters into my own hands and tear it down in my garage, at least that way if things take a long time then I know why, and I wouldn't be lied to about the progress. So I backed her into the garage and put her on jack stands and got to work. It didn't take very long to get the motor out and the turbos off. I'm now waiting on the turbos to come back, I picked up the new oil pump yesterday along with a new power steering pump too. I'll update this as I get the parts back and get everything put back together. Thanks for takin a look everyone. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/72615635@N02/6554199887/" title="DSCN0495 by adentiv, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7035/6554199887_f74b012e55.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0495"></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/72615635@N02/6554196947/" title="DSCN0494 by adentiv, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7160/6554196947_ac989bde02.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0494"></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/72615635@N02/6554184343/" title="DSCN0488 by adentiv, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7035/6554184343_7ce24a57ca.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0488"></a> lost a little gear oil pulling everything out :gotowned: garage reeked for a few days after that <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/72615635@N02/6554182723/" title="DSCN0487 by adentiv, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7027/6554182723_58f36c0529.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0487"></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/72615635@N02/6554158273/" title="DSCN0474 by adentiv, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7015/6554158273_338613912c.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSCN0474"></a> Tony |
Good luck with your build. Sorry to hear about the issues you had with your shop...
|
Good luck with the build. Post up pics along the way.

i agree w several sentences in this.. especially about BS progress reports.
:( IM getting frustrated again w my build. Even after shaking hands w the owner that id get weekly progress reports after all the BS i went thru.. good ol disappearing act again. Props to grabbing the reigns yourself man. Thats maning up..... like a soldier for sure. thumbs up. |
Good for u, the only way is do it urself!
May I ask Wat oil pump failed n Wat did u replace it with.... Oem de, rev up, Nismo etc....? |
what was the shop involved in the initial errors?
How does an oil pump fail? When the pump failed, did you spin a main? Did you have the block, heads, cams and turbos all checked after the pump failure? Kudos on taking matters into your own hands. I know what its like doing a teardown on stands in the garage, not much fun. |

East Coast Truck and Auto is the shop name link to the thread about them... https://my350z.com/forum/mid-atlanti...op-review.html I did check out the heads, they are good, clearances are a little tight but the heads only have about 50 miles on them. Block still has good cross hatching on the walls and compression is still good. The turbos got fried unfortunately :icon22: but thats being taken care or as i write this. I'll deff post up more pictures tonight after I finish assembling the long block, thanks for words guys. |

But glwb op! |
Oil pump failure and the main bearings all lived, lucky
|
sorry about your shop troubles but it looks like you are on the right track. Doing it yourself, you can be assured it is right.

Sounds fishy to me, like the oil lines were clogged or not properly installed. maybe someone got some crap in the oil restrictors. |

hmm, heads and bearings but the ball bearings that are water cooled in the turbos and require very little oil were burnt up.
Sounds fishy to me, like the oil lines were clogged or not properly installed. maybe someone got some crap in the oil restrictors. anybody have a diagrame or is able to explaine the oiling system on the DE's to me so I know how it works, that might help out in figuring out what happened :dunno: Guess a little back story on that part would help. Got the car back and put it on the dyno and the IVT system want working. My tuner gave everything a once over and said that everything looked fine, but he never pulled the timing covers off or anything, he only checked the electronics and the actuator that on the top of the heads. With that done, we put the car back on the dyno and made another 2 or 3 pulls and he noticed that there was a bit of noise coming from the passanger side turbo so he removed the intake piping and found that the drivers side turbo had seized and the passanger side was making a lot of noise as well, I think that this is wear the luck of my main and rod bearings not eating shiit comes in. Now I know that all of the IVT system is operated by oil pressure and during the process of tear down I did find that I was missing on of the o-rings on the passanger side cam gear cover and that one of the other o-rings on the same side was crushed and torn. So is it wrong of me to think that the oil pump was the culprate in the whole system, I mean I know that the o-rings didnt help, and I have since got the right ones. |
There is an oil passage diagram in the service manual.

all i have is the Hanes manual, tried to download the Nissan service manual but the document was password protected :gotowned:

Good news, just got an e-mail from my buddy that is rebuilding the turbos for me and he got them Thursday and started working on them this morning, he said it should be about 7-10 days turn around before he has them back in the mail (priority this time ) then its all back together and back in the car and to the tuner :)
|
Got the tracking number for the turbo's on Wednesday  I should have them tomorrow or Monday at the latest.
He also e-mailed me to let me know what happened to the old turbos... who ever put them on the first time used some sort of silicone to seal up the oil lines and it eventually worked its way into the bearings and fried them... |
I was climbing walls after 6 months I couldn't imagine 2 years- and then to burn out the turbos on account of what I'm assuming is pretty jank worksmanship.
Good luck with the rebuild and I certainly respect that you had the balls to do it yourself. |
