Should I boost it?
 

Hey guys, I'm new to the forums here and was wondering if a few fellow Z owners could answer a few questions I had.

I currently own a 2008 with 33,000 Miles and I'm thinking about boosting it. My main concern is that it's a bit pricey to buy a pre-built kit, so should I put my own kit together?

I'm decently savvy with cars and I'm a body shop technician so I have access to all the tools needed.

Basically I'm wondering if I don't skimp out on any of the parts I buy and get a good tune (Not cut corners) How well do you think my car would hold up.

I would greatly appreciate some feedback :)

If fabrication gets you off, build the kit. If DRIVING a boosted car gets you off, save time and buy a kit that already did the r&d

it WILL cost you more to build it yourself unless you have a crazy hook up for turbos and the such which most body shops dont.

What kind of boost do you want? SC, single or twins?

IMO, if you want a single (assumed because fabbing twins is much harder) then look into the Boosted Performance single kit. Its scalable, easy to install, great customer support and will get you to the limits of your stock block. A good tuner by a solid shop is a must, but teven then you are boosting an engine not designed for it... roll the dice.

This platform with boost is incredibly fun, but you have to pay to play and reliability is not the best.

All the pre-fab turbo kits I can locate for my motor are around 8k o.O

I looked for the pricing and wasn't able to locate it, I'd like to go twin but I need to figure out pricing first.

make sure you have money for a built motor....

Thanks for all the support guys, but this is an HR engine. The BP kit does not fit on the 07/08 cars because of this.

I have however been looking for a donor car for a while. No luck as of yet, local crowd is cheap, and nobody wants to drive up to Canada (eh) to get a kit built/installed for (cost). :) This of course goes only to the first car, then I can build a second kit, keep it, build jigs and go on from there.

To the OP it is expensive to buy an off the shelf kit but the amount of time and money to build tour own for a one off will likely put you farther behind than just buying one.

:thumbup: I don't have the Jeep ...yet....I went to buy one last week but it was sold when i got there :icon27: It is coming but I promised myself I would keep the mods tame and use it as a DD but after seeing the potential they have I have already been looking into built engines and turbo kits :o

i'm sure you've seen hellbent racing's TT kit for the srt8 jeeps. alot of piping, but very straight forward for twin 67s

Gord... I was rolling to Baltimore in the Z a few weeks back and an SRT8 Jeep rolled up on me rocking a large front mount. we played around a bit, then it was a puff of clutch dust and he was gone... that thing was VERY FAST :cool:

GTM's kit for the HR is less then 8k

to do it right. Its going to cost you minimum 10,000. Keep in mind you are also going to want to have a build motor depending on how much HP you are trying to get.
