New Garrett GTX2863 testing at R/T Tuning
So last night we had a chance to break in a customers new set up using the new Garrett GTX2863 turbo assy, and we are excited to say the least(same turbo run in the R/T current GS400TT project that can be found here http://www.tristatetuners.com/forum/...ighlight=gs400 ). Below is a list of specs for the new SR20DET running the GTX2863 R/T Tuning built S14 SR20DET including: Wiseco 9:1 Comp pistons Eagle Rods ACL Race bearings with R/T Spec'd clearances S14 Oil Pump Cometic headgasket R/T mild head port with 3angle valve job Tomei 260° Cam set 12mm lift NVCS compatable R/T Ported stock intake and exhaust manifolds The customers ultimate goal was to make more power without sacrificing spool or low end TQ at all. I think we accomplished this and then some!! Below is a dyno Graph comparing his first set up with a R/T PFC tuned stock S14 with all the typical bolt-ons overlayed with the new above set up with the GTX2863 with a .63 exhaust housing tuned on a PFC. This is also straight off of wastegate actuator with no boost controller hooked up. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7255/6...659d650a_b.jpg As you can see next to nothing was lost down low with big gains up high with only a small increase in boost. The small loss in low end power and torque you can see is in an area where boost is actually lower then stock due to no boost controller being used yet. Goals are to test this set up this weekend at the track to shake everything down and then return shortly after to add a boost controller and pick up big gains down low and also raise the boost to the max of pump gas. Stayed tuned for results For More info on purchasing this awesome turbo assy or any of the high quality Garrett turbos fell free to give us a call @215 855 5565 or via email at Erik@rttuning.com |
Whew! I had to re-read everything. I was thinking 359 on a built VQ is weak. Nice to see it's on a SR20DETT.

Yeah, you will have to stay tuned for numbers when a pair are strapped to a VQ. :)

Very nice - only reason tq appears to dip a bit down low is the boost spike from the stock run. Pics of turbos on the motor?
20 psi stock springs internal wg on the gtx2863? How high will you go? |
^^^^ we had a boost controller on there and the boost came on alot faster and had higher tQ then the stock set up which is pretty awesome. The clutch was new so we had to leave it just on the wastegate so the boost ramped up a lil slower as it was slipping on the dyno a little. probaly gonna run 23 lbs on pump gas and should put us up around 400whp with better then stock spool...which is pretty impressive to get on an SR20

I'm thinking about picking up one of these for my Miata, but I don't know if it would be worth it on the stock block. Any idea how it compares to the GT2860RS? From the maps, it looks like spool would be the same and you would really need to run more boost (20 psi +) to take full advantage of the new billet compressor wheel.
|
^^^^ how much power you looking to make ohn the miata? If you are staying stock block the GTX would be over kill.....even the 2860 is overkill on a stock block miata. We have done S15 turbos on miata's and they spool amazing and hold power really well to redline

I am at 268 RWHP/ 250 RWTQ at 15psi on the stock block with GT2860RS at the moment. I figured the GTX2863R (or even the GTX2860R for that matter) would probably be a waste without building the motor. I guess I was hoping for equal top end power but with better spool. Any GTX25's coming out that you know of?

any updates on this?:icon21:

The shop has been so busy with incoming customer cars that we haven't had the spare time to follow up with this project. We should be back with more info soon though!

Guys are loving these and the 2867's on Zilvia mentioning spool starting at 2000RPM.. Good stuff guys..
|
When it's time to build my block I'll probably switch my GT25's for GTX28's. Looks real nice.

We are dying to get back on this. We are swamped with customer projects at the moment but hope to be able to get more data on this project soon for you guys.
|
Thanks for the PMs with interest in this project guys. We are going to find the time to get back into it as soon as we can.
