man everytime i log onto my350z i get this UGH feeling like why isnt this motor done yet. anyways i just got back from my cruise and am back to work. this comming weekend i am shooting a wedding out of town so i will not be able to work on it till the following weekend. still need to purchase all new timing chains and a water pump along with all the random O rings/gaskets etc etc. being an aspiring photographer active duty military and car junkie get hectic sometimes but little by little. am trying to get the new motor on a stand soon will have pics if i do.

this would be a great time to plug this so here it is. check out my photography fb

www.Facebook.com/JFrancoPhotography if you get a chance :-)

How long did you have the AMS pulleys on for? (mainly the crank) as I have it but people always say you should keep the stock crank pulley so you dont damage the crank due to it being undamped? Do you think this contributed to your engine going pop?

Don't think I contributed at all, the AMS pulley is not an underdrive pully which is what people say can cause issues, my motor lost compression in 2 cylinders for all I know as of now I could just be a headgasket or rings motor ran great until in boost then it smoked a lot other then that no issues, so again I don't think it contributed, it had been on at least a year or 2

its not underdrive its lightweight combined with lightweight flywheels leaving nothing to absorb harmonics on the engine, light weight or underdrive would be ok to a point if the stock dual mass is left but if you eliminate the dual mass flywheel really need a ati or fluidamper

So go back to stock or get a ati/fluid damp

i would, personally i say fluidamper/ati they are more expensive but well worth the safety they provide, the stock one has a little elastometer on it but its hardly much at all. kinda one of those "well its better then nothing" deals, harmonics really hammer the bearings so thats why alot of the higher power guys list the harmonic dampener pulleys as must have. especially because v6's are naturally unbalanced, every rotation fires two pistons on one side one on the other vs inline engines, 4 cyl boxers where one is firing on each side or v8's where 2 are firing each side per rotation

summit i would say everyone will be pretty comparable to be honest just remember to get it on straight because it is press fit unlike the stock that just slides on.

In regards to the press fit installation, only heat the pulley up if the instructions say to and by the method they recommend. You can damage the fluid/elastomer depending on how you do it.

I also highly recommend using a threaded rod as a stud in the crank rather than the crank bolt so you don't strip the crank during installation.

before installing rear main and installing the upper pan. also installed the poly motor mounts.

cleaned everything out very well then engine temped. didnt have time for powdercoat so a couple coats of this shall do. also sprayed upper oil pan with the same color that ipp used on the motor.

Going to be tackling timing chain Tom, any tips? Got my Haines and doesn't seem to bad however my stock Motor marks don't line up like my book says so its kinda hard to use it as a reference. None of the colored links line up w timing marks. So I figured with new motor I will just follow Haines word by word

Can't wait to see this thing in action. Looks like a pretty solid build thus far.

thanks at this point i feel like my injectors (600cc) and my walbro 255 are gonna be holding me back some. i do have a stage 1 FRS which should help but we shall see what it makes with this setup. if its starving for more fuel. bigger injectors a larger intercooler and dual pumps or a larger pump will be next. but i cant wait to have her back on the road period!

I respect someone that does their own work, nothing feels better than knowing what has been done to your car, and knowing it was done correct. I'll be keeping an eye out for when she is ready for start up! Congrats man.
