2bad240's journey to the world of vortech

hey some of you know me, anyway for those that don't my name is ray.

my car has had several setups including nitrous and most recently a procharger that was a fail which prompted me to look elsewhere for power.

so luckily I managed to pick up a heavily used vortech bracket from jon @ Z1 for super cheap. (thanks jon!) and today I bought a v3 si new that should be here next week, also il be doing my intercooler piping all on the driver side so I can use my treadstone trv259 intercooler.

il be using this thread to update as I go. goal will be to make 18psi and whatever it does that's what it is. back story the engine is 11:1 wiesco pistons eagle rods. stock bore, tomei 272 cams and valve springs running a kinetix velocity intake and ppe longtubes.

anyway here is a pic of the old setup and a couple pics from test fitting the bracket before I pull it off for coating.

And lastly the blower.

Gonna follow this build closely! Can't wait to see what it does! Good luck on the vortech.

I'm hoping for the best for you! Now that im driving mine slowly I think may 48-24 pulleys may not be enough for me.

jdm-v35 May 22, 2015 04:47 AM

Did you ever get any numbers with your procharger setup? Definitely curious but in the future I may also be looking into a new setup since the procharger is so limited.

Conway, the larger pulley moving up in size doesnt make as much of a difference as reducing the smaller pulley size. with my setup, at redline, just changing the smaller pulley from 25 to 22 changes the blower rpm from 75k to 85.5k according to procharger calculation.

My next step would be 48-22.

Only had it on the dyno once when I first installed the engine. And had it detuned a lot to make the drive to znationals safely. It made 397/309 with like 16* of timing with 8psi. And that was with the PC kit stock before I started upgrading things and my maf was maxed it so it literally fell on its face after 7000.

And here is the best time I managed to get out of it on 8psi, never got a chance to try it on 10psi

Yea would have loved to see what it did after the pulley upgrade to your current setup. did it feel significantly faster? Or did it become inefficient when spinning it that high?

Definitely felt faster and the logs showed gains. Could definitely feel the mid range increase in boost from the pulley change. Just wasn't enough for me.

Great time btw. I would be very happy with 11's. was that with the high comp build and cams?

str8dum1 May 28, 2015 08:28 AM

if you bought a new unit, why not a bigger one? like Ti or YSI?

2bad240 May 28, 2015 03:16 PM

I got a good deal on the si. And I think I can make the power I want with the si.

Got the blower in today and started mocking up piping and test fitting everything. It gonna be very tight fit but I think I can fit 3" piping and retain AC.

All the new piping should be here tomorrow and at this point I'm only waiting on the cog pulley for the blower

Awesome build bro

Conway_160 May 28, 2015 05:21 PM

That's close as ****, but good luck.

Did your order the blower in black Coating? Or did you paint it? Looks Good.....

Thanks! Ordered it black. After having the polished procharger I don't care to have to polish it all the time.

Piping came in today. Starting to work on the routing now. It's gonna be a tight fit but I think it will work. Need my chop saw and a few couplers and it should be ready to go.

Here is final Fitment for piping. After cutting and modding everything fits pretty good. I just need to weld on maf flange And bov flange.
