Gauges installed (pics)
Whilst I wait for development of a custom A-pillar for the G35, I went ahead and had three gauges installed on my existing pillar:

does the aem uego work well? does it occilate like the gay autometer ones all the time?
|
I say screw the gauge pod, that looks very nice.

Looks GREAT!!!

Yesterday was my first chance to use the gauges so I'm still getting acclimated. The LED readout is not jittery. I don't recall if the lights around the perimeter are less "smoothed" than the LED readout. I'll check this next time I'm out and about (weather is nasty here now so WOT isn't practical).
The A/F reading does appear to be slightly delayed--perhaps half a second behind. That may be due to smoothing. I need to get the manuals out and read them. --Steve |
Steve, I got a question for you about the AEM. I installed mine and when I'm at WOT, the LED is pinned to 11 the whole time, and the numbers now read - - -. I spoke with AEM, they've been transfering me to a few techs, they say its because it's really rich, below 11, yet on the dyno my A/F from say 2500-4800 are right under 12. I know a wideband is supposed to be more accurate, reading from the manifold collector etc.. but no way is there that much of a difference. I'm wondering what yours reads when your at WOT? Have you had a chance to try it out?
Also, they did a really good job on the install, very clean! Bill |
When I go WOT mine starts at 14.7 and drops progressively to the 11s as boost increases. That's where I'm tuned to be, so no surprises there. I think the only time I see it hold at - - - is if I'm off throttle--but I need to play with it more.
What I ought to do is have someone sit in the back seat and watch. I played around a bit late last night but it's still hard to watch the gauge and drive at WOT. I'll get better at it, tho. I also put in the Kinetix HF cats at the same time so I should go do a dyno run (or record the output of the AEM gauge on a laptop) to make sure I'm still rich enough. --Steve |
Did you hook up the serial output wire to the rs-232 plug? I'm going to do that sometime today when I get a chance to run to radio shack. See, I tuned to be in upper 11's at those RPM's I specified, but it's still coming back like it's richer then 11, so I was concerned the gauge or sensor is acting up.
|
not bad.
|
I haven't done that--and in fact I don't know for sure where they ran the serial output wire. Lemme know how that goes.
--Steve |
Looks good in the G. One question.... Was it not possible to run the wires behind the A-Pilar cover, or were there too many wires to fit them in there. Looks good either way....

very nice

Sorry to interrupt but what does the EGT gauge tell about the car versus the A/F gauge?
|
EGT measures the heat of the engine gas.

Fly By Z you may be right. However, I am planning to use the A/F gauge for ongoing tuning purposes since it has serial output and can record exact A/F at intervals over time. The EGT is nice because it doesn't immediately change after letting off throttle.
--Steve |
That looks sweet.......like someone said earlier, screw the pod.....you did a great job
