Default Advice on Exhaust 06 DE.

Gents, looking for some feedback on exhaust choices as I start my V3 build. I need to balance performance with db level as my neighborhood has covenants. Tomei single is def out, and prolly MD TDX2. I'm leaning towards HKS dual, my shop thinks it's restrictive. If you have a moment please comment about your experience.
ThanQ!

Stock, no cats.
What power level are you going for? If under 400 then just stay stock with the cats removed.

I enjoy the sound of my stock cat back with resonated test pipes and aftermarket ISR Y pipe. very quiet normal driving with a very nice tone.

+1 to what power youre looking to achieve. Although heavy, I liked the way the Stillen true dual sounds and it was (IMO) the best of both worlds … quiet at low to mid rpms and loud and abrupt at high rpms. Don't know if you can still get it new but every now and again they pop up used.

I'm a fan of the fast intentions 2.5 dual. Sounds great, not too loud, and I put down 675hp on twins.

Thanks for the input!
Looking to put down high 4s. So-
Colder plugs, ID 1050s, powder-coated my pipes, new Walbro 255, crank damp pulley,TS TR 10,etc.

I pulled the trigger on a made-to-order Fast Intentions catback, thanQ aarrgghh!

'Scuse the FI Newb, but I'm currently on Berk Hi Flows (in a smog county for plates). The rep @ FI suggested res test pipes to smooth things out. I can't then pass visual or CEL. I still have my OG cats I can hollow out, or register the vehicle in TN with a family member possibly (no smog req).

Thoughts?

might want to bump up to a 320 to 340lph. A 255lph may get you to low / mid 400s but I'm not sure about high 400s. If you havent bought the 255 maybe order the 320/340.

Search noob! Plenty of exhaust threads! Oh hi jhc... lol I meant to say, go custom exhaust with vibrant mufflers. I love mine, think several exhausts brands are built off vibrant mufflers. I'm in Cali so I have to keep it somewhat toned down and its not overly loud. At cold start it lets out a loud growl, once at operating temps, its very fairly mellow with no drone.

Good to know. Thanks my friend! Chatting with my svc writer about that atm.
Edit-
He's just did a G35 with that pump so my magic number is 485 on this setup.

Guilty.
I went with Fast Intentions 2.5 dual. Had I been a lil more focused at C&O on Sunday instead of watching the chicas I could have made my own sound clips.

Still have the smog/cats dilemma. May just keep the high-flows till I can get TN registration.

funny!

Sparco has some merit here … my custom / one off aluminum exhaust is 4" 6061 1/8" wall with a 4" vibrant muffler … it's significantly louder than a stillen or an Invidia.

well, time to go bat-shet crazy and go with a hellcat 525lph then! I did this (485lph initially) and sold my setup to a fellow member and then went with a 525lph in the OEM basket. Find that 'E85 485 DIY fuel pump' thread and follow it. It's sorta jenky but it does work.

Knew you'd take that the right way. But seriously, throwin' on a snail, are ya? Good on ya. Even though I think the money is better spent on #drivingschool. Hahahahahaha!

But that's gonna be righteous, what kind of numbers are you looking for? Funny thing, never felt the need on the 33s, the need for speed.... except out of a rippin' hot corner. But then, I also have the other car, the one that scares me when I even breathe heavily onto the loud pedal. Heh heh. Are you going into the motor itself or start by bolt n' tune then address internals as you see fit? I was one of the first guys (that I knew/know) to go turbo on my '76 S30 (BAE in case anyone's wondering) and had to be something of a pioneer in mechanical tweaks (H2O injection, ignition black box, cam timing, etc) to stave off meltdown. Now, with tuning to safeguard you and many tried and true FI techniques, it ought to be relatively simple. Key word: relatively.

In for the build.

Sup Mic my brother.
Nope, this is stage one on a VQ35DE @ 108K. Found a cobbled V3-SCI kit and said "Why not?" Brand new blower, I got the pipes powder-coated black. I love this car (8 years since purchase), wheels, tires, suspension all Top Shelf, (DIY in my garage). Never did much on air-flow except spacer, Berk Hi Flows and Z1 Street CAI intake.

Honestly, I'm never gonna sell this car- it's pristine from a paint/body/interior standpoint. I changed the canvas top at home, come to to think everything was done with my wrenches.

In answer to your question, 485 is my magic number atm. If the engine fails. I'll be like,"wtf" and go start over with a built RJM closed-deck. I'm not the sort to bore folks with 10K pics on a build thread but I may do a build sheet if there's any interest.

I run the stickiest street tires out there, and Skip Barber is in fact my uncle once removed (LIES on part 2). Mahalo my friend!

Update-
I'll have to register the car with a family member in TN (no SMOG), straight test pipes going on in front of the Fast Intentions 2.5 true dual. More later.

Sounds good, John. FWIW, I like the "instantness" of a supercharger. I've lost count on how many FI cars I've owned/played with - mostly factory with mods aside from my 280Z with the aftermarket kit - but from those experiences know that if you're going for BIG power without going with extra cubes, turbo(s) is the way to go. But gotta tell ya, there's not much that compares with a supercharger as far as pushing your back into the seatback due to the lower torque peak generally associated with belt driven FI. My Benz packs it in there with close to 500 crank power and can't really see needing more. All that power, nowhere to drive. Or I'm getting old. Haha.

Sounds like you've got it pretty well thought out. Good luck in the pursuit of "mo'powuh!"
