Comp turbo self install error
******Please read post #36 for explanation of how this was a installation error and not a manufacturer defect******
So for the last 3 months I have been meticulously installing a Boosted Performance turbo kit for my HR.....works been really busy so I've been tackling the install by myself when I have time. Prior to doing the turbo install I dropped the transmission and put in a Southbend stage 3 daily clutch and DXD flywheel, Zspeed HD slave, wilwood MC ect ect.
Today I finally got to the point where I could actually fire her up and drive it just a little bit to check for leaks.......................after letting it idle for 5 mins I decided to go around the block lightly....I only had the base map flashed provided by Sasha and Vince at RT tuning so I kept it light footed.....................
This is where I get really sad now, I made it only about an eighth mile from my house and I started to notice a kind of whirling or howling sound coming from the Comp Turbo (oil-less provided with the boosted performance turbo kit) I turned around and parked it back in the garage and started checking everything out.
I noticed when I removed the air filter for the turbo it appears that the impeller blades have somehow made a grove into the turbo inlet housing....I'll upload pics tomorrow.
What would of caused this so fast? not even getting on it....I assume all the metal shards from the impeller and inlet housing are now located in my engine now......
Sorry for the long post..............just utterly disappointed....didn't now what else to do....its not even about the money.....just all the time I have spent with all this......I guess literally everyone was right about my 350z and what a waste of time and money it would be doing all this to it.

I'm keeping an eye on mine too. Turing the tune I thought I heard some thapping.
Tuner said it was just the BOV but I just don't think he heard what I did. I hope to god it's not this turbo. I the same as you did the best I could, some of those bolts were PITA to get to after clocking.

That's just how these turbos seem to be. 40% amazing, 40% terrible, 20% heard of a guy or just don't know anything about them.
I wasn't happy at first, I wanted oiled as well. But if she holds and performs, why complain. Only time will tell for me tho. Hopefully I don't have to replicate this thread.

Comp Turbo got back to me today through email. Basically they said sorry I am having an issue with a product... that is why they warranty it for 12 months and to send it back to them so they can verify it.
What is everyone's opinion on cases like this..... Lets say I just dropped 14 grand on a new turn key built engine. Then this happens and POOF money down the drain due to a faulty turbo....I understand the turbo warranty but if it is a faulty turbo how do companies get away with selling a defective product and not get held liable for damages from a faulty product...like an engine?
What is everyone's opinion on cases like this..... Lets say I just dropped 14 grand on a new turn key built engine. Then this happens and POOF money down the drain due to a faulty turbo....I understand the turbo warranty but if it is a faulty turbo how do companies get away with selling a defective product and not get held liable for damages from a faulty product...like an engine?

They shouldn't, but because these are aftermarket parts they play the well YOU installed it game.
If you can prove it was solely the turbo which caused ALL of the damage and wasn't due to i tall error you might have a case to file a lawsuit. But good luck with that, again they know people don't have the time or energy to try and win something like that.
So they push parts, and just hope it goes well. Little to no liability.

I don't have any complaints about Sasha or his kit he has been great......the turbo is made by Comp Turbo. I feel that starting a thread was the right thing to do since there isn't a lot of oil-less turbos out there right now and it may help the community with my personal experience with Comp Turbo.....
Just to clarify I am happy with Sasha and his products/service.......not so much with my turbo which isn't really anything with him other than it is what currently ships with the kit.

Yea I too can vouch for Sasha.
We ran into some minor issues and basically I had to pester the **** out of him for 6-8 months to get all the parts I needed from the distributors cause some things never got sent to me.
He was more than helpful and easy to work with until everything was done.
Even after emailing off and on for 8 months he still offered to notify him if I had any other issues. Great guy great business.
less than I can say for mishimoto that basically told me tough sh*t or take their cheap toys when I was missing parts and screws on some of their products.
sorry but a sticker isn't going to help my rad stay mounted
