HR Stillen a2a build.

Hey everyone I'll start this off in the beginning. I was looking to either supercharge or turbocharge my Z. I finally decided I wanted to go supercharged. I had seen that there was a used Vortech V3 supercharger in the marketplace which had overspun bearings. So I thought I guess we will start here lol. Rebuild it and start piecing together an air to air kit.

Next step was to get the Stillen s/c brackets, manifold, pulleys and other miscellaneous bolts. At this time I also ordered a Stillen gold series oil cooler too.

Good stuff and nice stuff. Upload pics of your car too.

Since I was still driving the car I went ahead and purchased the Zspeed stage 2 clutch kit with the quiet disc option and 20lb flywheel. Plus the CMAK V2 to delete the csc before a failure occurred. Overall first impressions was Wow this is what the car needed from the get go. Better engagement and shifts between gears. Smoother overall felt like a whole different car.

The intercooler that was used was the Threadstone TRV185B intercooler. I mocked up the intercooler with piping. Used some cardboard to make templates for the intercooler brackets and then cut the brackets out. Its not the prettiest but are solid and functional. I will eventually make different ones and powder coat them but for now they will do.

Nice work

How are you tuning this? what boost pressure do you think the vortech will put down?

Zvick91 05-29-2019 08:22 AM

Currently E-tuning with Nik @ Soho Motorsports. As for the boost pressure i'm running Stillen's standard pulley that comes with there kit. So around 8-9 psi i'm seeing at the moment with my setup. I also have the 9lb pulley for more boost but i want to make sure everything goes well first and fix any issues that may arise before adding more power.

One of the last few things I was missing was the bypass valve and y pipe. Always searching around for a good deal I found a Turbosmart 38mm bypass valve on the 370z forum for free only thing the owner stated that he had issues with it where it wouldn't boost correctly. The problem with it that I found was it didn't have the correct spring and the current spring had been cut. I ordered the correct one up, overnighted it, installed the next day. Good as new. Also ordered up the y-pipe from Soho Motorsports which would complete the rest of the setup under the hood besides the tuning and gauges.

Zvick91 05-29-2019 03:16 PM

Currently how the car sits today besides the bumper on. I had to buy a filter to put on the bypass valve it was definitely way to loud for my taste. Almost finished e-tuning. Hopefully will be able to get some Dyno time in the near future to see what this car is putting down.

Looks awesome. I was just starting to look into this exact idea.

Make sure you drill out your swirl jet so you can get your fuel pressure back down to ~53psi.

MicVelo 05-30-2019 06:40 PM

Nice build (and nice documenting). Sounds well thought out. Sub’d. 👍

Swirl jet was all drilled out. I had the directions from CJ next to me printed out. Thanks though!

Hello all! It's been awhile since I last posted updates on the car. Car ran flawlessly throughout the season till put away for winter. Drove around 4000 miles with no hiccups. Current goal for this winter is to gain safe usable power down low. Since the car is supercharged it has a linear curve. I am currently running 10 lbs. of boost at 7200 rpm. To achieve my goal for more power down low i will have to raise the boost pressure which with pump gas(93) and a stock block not much more boost I can use before it gets too risky. So my current plan is to get a smaller pulley of 2.5 in diameter pulley compared to the current 2.87 in on the serpentine side of the jack shaft. This should raise my boost from 10 lbs. to 14 lbs. of boost. Which with the additional boost this will help with the extra power i'm looking for but now I have another issue due to limitations of pump gas(93). I could use E85 to reduce pre-detonation but I don't think the stock block will handle the additional stress. So a few other components I will be adding is a boost controller and an external waste gate on the cold side piping after the supercharger to limit the overall boost to around 10 lbs. So hopefully after these few upgrades i will be able to achieve what i am looking for. I have already purchased the 2.5 in pulley, an extra idler pulley to add belt tension and a boost controller. Pictures to come shortly with more info. Any recommendations for the waste gate will be helpful. I am currently looking at the Turbosmart genv compgate 40mm waste gates.
