Two points I noticed. Only 217 RWHP stock? That is really low isn't it?

Next, I haven't seen anyone get anywhere near 12.2 sec. quarter mile with ONLY the ATI 7 lbs. pulley and no other mods.

My question is: How can a dyno simulate the kind of wheelspin we Procharger guys get when we launch???

I think that is the key here. I know whenever I do a "quarter mile" simulation with either my G-Tech acceleometer or with the OBD II on my In-Car PC, the best I have done is around 13.1-13.2 and 112 MPH. Now, I am a rookie at launching and with more practice I may get better times, BUT 12.2??? No way!

It was on a Mustang dyno so numbers aer ususally lower. Last dyno day down here in SD all the cars numbers were about 15-20 HP lower than the Dynojet we went to after that. Its the way the dyno reads power. The last SCC article on it gives a great explanation. On the 1/4 mile time is only a BASIS to run off of. We did the 1/4 mile passes too and somehow my 14.7 Spec V (at the time) ran a 14.4

We had a '86 Mustang tube chassis car on our Mustang Chassis Dyno that ran an 8.65 and a 8.66 in the 1/4 mile. Even with the car strapped down, the front end was up off of the dyno throughout 1st gear. We were tuning this car for a race down in Texas two days later. In 100 degree heat down in Texas the Mustang ran consistant 8.70's. We have seen the differences between our dyno and real track numbers be this close many times. Our dyno's rollers grip like a very good VHT prepared track can, but we will be seeing if the real track numbers are this fast this coming Wednesday, as the owner of the car and some of his buddies have rented Muncie Dragway for the day. The owner of this 350Z also has a '66 Plymouth 426 hemi and a '70 440 6 pack Cuda. he told me this past week after driving the 350Z for several days that he bets the 350Z will clean the 440 six pack now. I guess we'll see. Bob

We'll see about him taking out the Cuda. Thats one fast old bucket. However as you said the dyno can be off. i'm not saying you guys are screwed up but I know what the Mustang dyno and Dynojet differnce was locally. And it was two weeks between dyno runs. HP is almost ALWAYS lower than Dyno jet numbers and 1/4 mile times are USUALLY better on the dyno.

Mustang Dyno's run 8 % lower form the article that I read .My dyno guy say 11% .Not sure who is right but they are surely lower

The Mustang Chassis Dyno's typically always will give a lower hp and torque number as a result of the optional $16,000 eddy current option. A Dyno Jet Dyno calculates off of the heavy weighted rollers. Eddy current dynos run a big electric motor, which in turn places resistance against the dyno roller. With eddy current you can measure top end performance (the computer has the weights and drag coefficient of most cars) and 1/4 mile performance. We had one car coming out at 6,000 rpm on our dyno, which was a real sight to see! We can also measure how long it takes a person to powershift. Eddy current dynos are typically regarded as being much more accurate, although most people's egos don't like seeing the lower hp numbers. It really doesn't matter which type of dyno you use, get a baseline dyno test, then go back to the same dyno when you do updates in performance. The initial 217hp number on this 350Z may seem a little low to some of you, but to put it into perspective, stock GM LT1 Camaro and Firebirds will only see 190hp on our dyno! Bob

The quickest we saw it run today was consistent 13.20's with a consistent 2.20 60ft time. The track preparation was lousy, and the track was full of stones and gravel which never was getting swept off. There also was a stiff head wind... matter of fact it was so windy that we had the car cooling down with the hood propped up, and the wind caught the hood, and bent the hood hinges and cracked the windshield!
The good thing was that the mph was 111mph, which means the car is making power. I think we have the owner Jon convinced that he needs some drag radials in place of the stock tires on the rear. Bob
