Are there test pipes that "aren't" raspy?

Ugh, this is frustrating....

Are there ANY high flow cats or test pipes w/resonators won't produce a constantly raspy exhaust? here's what I've tried...

I have the stillen true-dual SS exhaust (the loud one, but resonated)

*Helix unresonated (duh)
*Kinetix Hi-flow cats (still raspy)
*Megan resonated test pipes (just like the helix)

Back to stock because I can't stand the sound of a $40k car sounding like a honda (i.e. raspy). help me out here... I don't care what it costs, but I want something that isn't going to be raspy! (a little bit I can deal with, but all the time is just lame)

No. You can try adding a resonator on the exhaust with a regular test pipe. That should do it. If you really hate it, then don't get the test pipe. I've tried countless combos too, and I just settled on an exhaust thats so loud, rasp isnt my only worry lol.

I think it's just the nature of the beast. Deal with it or get some hiflows.

How 'bout you give me yours and you can have my stock...walla...problem solved! :)

UTR Resonated Test Pipes sound good.

MRC sells them.

plumpzz Oct 31, 2006 07:02 PM

Ahh you have twin turbo :-D Julians 3' TD beast APS system doesn't rasp even with his huge straight pipe (HAHA..). However, some injen guys on NA run straight pipes through a 2.1'' pipe and get monster rasp.
Its the nature of the beast. Ive ran resonated test pipes w/ APS exhaust and with stock exhaust and it still rasps. The resonator on 'resonated test pipes' is 6'' long and about 1/2'-1'' thick. Its not going to stop any sound. You need a hardcore 1'' long resonator to stop rasp like that or a muffled x pipe.

damn, so I'm basically SOL...

With Hi-flow cats, are there any ones better than the Kinetix ones? Damn, I'll just go with unresonated test pipes then....deal with it, or go balls to the wall, right?

edwin350z Oct 31, 2006 09:34 PM

it all depends... i sold some good ol ebay test pipes to a member here.. bob (eaaaazyy) for 60 bucks a while back ago because borla sounded like ass with em.. he has or had at that time headers and a vortec charger in his car and it sounded quiter than my car w/ out them but with a sh!t load of more power. need to get te right combo...

ZFreak (Denver) Nov 1, 2006 11:14 AM

<---procharger w/Stillen headers + exhaust. They are all raspy it seems.

http://www.labreemotorsports.com/ ... 'supposed' to be one of the best resonated pipes...

Z1 Performance Nov 1, 2006 03:40 PM

no z will sound like a honda, that's for sure

but to answer your question, by their nature, test pipes are FAR louder than stock cats or aftermarket high flow cats - does not matter what brand, resonated or not, they are all loud and raspy. This is going to be maginified on a true dual exhaust such as the Stillen (or any).

As for cats, we've run the Ultimate Racing ones on one of our Z's (mine) since fall 2003, and they are hands down the best we have come across. Perfect fit and finish, nice mellow sound, alot lighter than stock, all stainless, and a nice gain in mid and top end punch as well. Even with my titanium exhaust (Fujitsubo) the car is not raspy at all

I have kinetix resonated TP and it doesn't rasp much.. only time I notice is when I drive long distance they're hot.

Megan Resonated pipes, great pipes with very little raspiness.

Z4lif3 Nov 6, 2006 07:20 PM

I have the Ultimate racing HFC and i have no rasp along wit my nismo exhaust and DC headers.

ahero4eternity Nov 13, 2006 09:33 PM

fast intentions = no rasp ;)

BlackZero6 Nov 14, 2006 07:19 AM

has anyone had any experience with intense power test pipes?

DanielW Nov 17, 2006 02:28 PM

I have ultimate racing hfc's and I'm not sure if what i'm hearing is rasp but i hear a metallic buzzing noise, especially when the car is cold, between3-4.5k rpm's. It may be making contact with the heatshield on the drivers side. I don't know

MarkG35 Nov 18, 2006 01:21 PM

Top speed test pipes are awesome

Badameng Nov 18, 2006 06:50 PM

Ive heard great things about Fast Intentions and Labree, now if i could only find some for a reasonable price!:icon20:
