S-Tech's on an 06' Coupe
 

We swapped springs and its been about 2 months. I keep hearing some noise from underneith, but upon inspection, everything is tight.
Could the struts be damaged from the the drop? Anyone experience this?

"Some noise" is a little vague. Could you be more specific?

What does the noise sound like?
When do you hear it? Over a bump? All the time? When you turn?

Good point! Over bumps only. Not really a thump, but more like chatter. Would the lowering springs affect the struts and the way they recover.
Could having spun the strut rod have affected the inner seal and it is not funtioning properly?

I am by no means an expert at this, but I have lowered my fair share of cars in my time.

Is the chatter kinda metallic? Like a bolt is loose? You said you've tightened up everything but that's the first thing that comes to mind. Can you locate what corner of the car it's coming from or is it coming from all 4 corners? If you haven't already I'd lift the frame up off the ground and let the suspension hang loose. You'll get a better idea if there is a loose bolt or the like if the springs and struts aren't carrying a load.

I've never heard of twisting the strut rod affecting an inner seal. Though I suppose anything is possible. Does the car appear to be sitting right? It's not lower on one corner than another like a strut has gone bad is it?

How low did you go? Most struts wouldn't be damaged from a reasonable drop. The most I'd think to experience would be a less comfortable ride from the fact the strut no longer is allowed to travel it's entire length to cushion the ride.

The car in question happens to be my car. Its dropped on S-techs so about a little over 1" drop. Weve already lifted up the car twice but couldnt find anything wrong. The noise is best described as metallic rattle and only occurs when the suspension drops after hitting a bump.

My gut reaction is that it sounds like the strut is extending to its full length and the spring is too short to compensate. It doesn't fill the full gap.

The only time I've seen this happen is when you do a "redneck drop" on a car. You take off the stock springs, get a metal cutter and snip off a twist or two of the spring making it shorter...too short actually. When the suspension drops away from the frame after hitting a bump, leaving the ground, whatever, the strut extends the spring can't fill the gap and so it just waits for the strut to recompress and rattles back into place. Not very safe.

I can't imagine a set of aftermarket springs would have that problem but if you're looking at it, and nothing appears loose, that'd be my first guess.

only problem with that theory is that there are tons of people with Stechs on their car some with the stock shocks as well who dont have this problem

No, I agree. It's not the best theory. That's just my gut reaction. Hmmm. Seems like more people would want to weigh in on this. Funny how it's just become a two person conversation.

Was it a non-sport suspension or sport suspension? I went with the eibach pro kit on my non-sport suspension and have no noises what so ever.
I've heard that the s-techs feel a bit too squashy, maybe if you upgraded your struts the noise will go away.

Its a sport suspension. I think they are fine i just wish the noise would go away lol

Just an update. Swapped the springs and put in Tein Flex's and the noise went away. What I suspected was that the oil seal on the front left strut developed a leak went installed (I believe from spinning the center rod during installation).
Must admit, Love those Tein Flex's on the car. Great ride.

The coilovers were for the Z, but the G got them.

Going with KW Variant 3's now for the Z.
