Default Is front brake squeal normal on OEM brakes?

2005 G35 with ~23k miles and for the first year and a half, no noise was heard from the brakes at all. Not a hard driver or late braker, so fairly easy on the brakes for most of the time. Lately, have been hearing brake squeal (like the audible low pad thickness warning) on normal braking. Took the car into stealership and they said everything was fine. A few days later, brakes still squealed. Decided to look at the pads myself and saw that the thickness of them were fine, so I added some anti-brake squeal goop on the backsides of the pads. Noise was gone for a while, then noise came back. Went back to stealership and they tried to blame by anti-brake squeal goop on the noise. (uh, no.) Upon doing a test drive, they heard the noise upon normal braking situations. They checked everything out and said that brakes are fine in working condition and that I don't use the brakes 'aggressively enough'. wtf? So I decided to get on the brakes a little bit harder and yes, the squeal was gone, but probably b/c I am now applying pressure to the brake pads (duh). If this was the case, why did it take over 1.5 years and 23k miles before this noise was heard? I think the stealership is full of it, but would like input from this forum. Sorry for the long post. TIA!

My brakes squeal when I apply medium pressure. soft pressure or hard pressure not a sound. I still have lots of pad left.

Yup..you're not the only one...Mine have been doing it for a while now and I still have tons of pad life left. Just sucks cause people always look over and stare when they hear me braking.

Would a different brake pad type reduce or eliminate the noise? If so, which pads should I look into?

I switched my OEM ones with EBC Green Stuff pads. No squeal and less dust. You could also look into the Hawk pads

Mine squeal too. There are so many little noises and things on this car, you just gotta learn to live with em.

I have Hawk pads and I still get a squek every now and then from my brakes.

Squeaky brakes can make any nice car look like a pile...

Mine seem to squeal when I least expect it. At least it's not constant. It's annoying but not enough to dampen my enjoyment of the car overall.
I have an 04 and it has the 'newer' OEMs replaced under the early brake warranty for 03-04. At the time the service mgr said the pads were improved for more life but less rotor scoring. But braking should be about the same otherwise.
My front rotors were also replaced under the warranty.

my car is just below 12k on the odometer and I hear the squeal. I just apply more pressure, but I will be doing a brake change on the car, while I drain and replace all fluids.
