noticed some LEDs burned out on G35's
--- anyone notice LEDs burned out on G35's taillamps? --- following behind a few on the local highway, I have noticed several (at least 3) G35's with one or more LEDs burned out within the taillamps --- at first I thought it was just a fluke, however, I have noticed many Cadillacs with the long Center Mount LED's taillamps having the same problem. I luv the look and can hardly wait until a nice tasteful retrofit is made available for 350Z --- does anyone have any insight on longterm reliability of LEDs for exterior lighting? Thank You in advance.

im pretty sure the leds used on the g35 are lumileds superflux.
http://www.lumileds.com/products/list/super_flux.html these leds are rated for 100,000 hours. this should easily outlast the car however there are other factors. they might be overdriving the leds, vibration, and voltage spikes can all lower the life expectancy. and when the car has 60 leds on the back the odds that a couple go bad rise dramatically. vibration can also crack the solder joints on the circuit board. even with these issues leds are still far more reliable than incandescents and one day not so far in the future there wont be a single incandescent lamp anywhere in a car. |
Most leds are pretty Unidirectional, so at certain angle it might seem to be burn out. If you you look straight at it and still out, then welll.. that suck

Haven't heard anything about this on ANY of the G35 forums.
