70% jwt twin kit. 30% custom. My build

Started building about a month ago. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/my350z....7c97c51d7.jpeg
Bought a used jwt kit for a decent price.

Z1 flywheel n clutch has seen better days.

Starting to erase the casting lines. The stock rev up lower manifolds are decent but i think it should flow better without the casting lines. Currently waiting on my Head gaskets from z1. It was a pain trying to get Headgaskets that were discontinued.

Id1000cc on my cheap remilled rails to see and rub one out later.

Tran251 09-01-2018 09:34 AM

Managed to get a t28 1/2 in flange adapter to space out the turbos enough to clear. Only 30$ shipped. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/my350z....b6a12ce53.jpeg
I posted this in G35Driver also. Just in case someone wants to buy jwt manifolds and their gt2871 turbos won’t fit. Just get a spacer. Mill or drill out the taps.

onevq35de 09-01-2018 09:35 AM

He said "Rub one out later" . Huh huh https://g35driver.com/forums/images/...snbutthead.gif

Tran251 09-01-2018 09:41 AM

Today I’m just messing around polishing the intake manifolds. Spencer at z1 told me that it’ll take an additional 2 weeks for the rest of my parts to come. It’s been 23 days since I placed the order. Mostly it wa due to me wanting Cosworth hr Headgaskets and they’re discontinued. So now I’ll have to settle for cometic hr 3rd gen HG. My goal is to be finished by the time Z nationals / z con weekend. We’ll see if that’s possible.
For ems I was looking into AEM INFINITY 708. It’s on sale for 1000$ at enjuku racing (without the pnp adapters.) the pnp adapters can be purchased separately for 99$. So about 1100$ for the basic system. That’s still a deal imo.

will I get in trouble for posting this? I can remove. .

lol have you heard about enjuku racing is selling the infinity 8 ems for 1$k?

onevq35de 09-01-2018 10:02 AM

Yeah, no. I have no idea what that is. I'm the worst guy to question about turbo's or fuel management systems. I came very close to buying a bunch of stuff from Enjuku to include an HKS or Vortech supercharger and decided against it at the last minute. I do know that Andrew over at Enjuku is a cool cat, so I'm not surprised he's got a good deal on this gizmo you speak of.

I ask because it’s a ridiculously cheap price for a ems that is normally 2k.
I think I’ll just call and see if it’s a typo or just a bracket for the infinity system. Lol
thanks oneVq35de

Tran251 09-01-2018 10:13 AM

Are you going to z nationals/ zcon?
No one is really talking about it in the forums.

No. It is tempting though, being just a state away from me.

That might be right. I was going to get a vortech v3 for $4,300 which is crazy cheap. I think they raised the price on that by $500.

Tran251 09-01-2018 11:50 AM

It’d be nice if we could get some guys from the forum to meet up at zcon. I’d like to see some of the heavy hitters cars in person. Line jdmv35 rcdash bealljk etc.
shoot. I’d be nice to meet up with Vq35de guys period. It’s pretty dead here in mobile Alabama.

Wish I lived close to that

Hardly a heavy hitter ... Atlanta would be a hike for me but I'd love to go!

You got a nice build going, great pictures too - keep this thread going with your progress and any issues you run in to - there are some good guys on the forum that can help.

A few questions -

You're obviously rebuilding your block - what components are going into the build?

Are you dead-set on the Cometic headgaskets? Last time I did HG I went with OEM HRs as no head gaskets are going to save your engine from a bad tune or detonation.

Are you getting the turbos rebuilt?

Are you 100% committed to the AEM infinity? Do you have a tuner that knows that setup? If youre not committed consider looking into what Haltech and Link has to offer. But I've heard good things about all three developers. I would also tell you to look into Uprev - alot of guys make respectable power with Uprev

Its probably ok to buff out the casting marks in the OEM intake manifold and lower plenum but I would tell you to NOT increase the diameter of those components as they are designed in a specific manner.

If you have the Rev-up lower plenum, have you considered swapping back to a DE lower plenum and doing the motor-dyne mod and adding a plenum spacer??

You’re a beast when it comes to this bealljk. I seen your build page. Very impressive. I’ve been following your build for a few years. I just never had enough money to rebuild my car until now.
i have Manley h beam rods. Wiseco 8.8:1 pistons. L19 head studs with the regular arp 2000 main studs. ACL bearing with an extra thousandsths oil clearance. Stock heads.
As for my EMS, I’m not totally dead set on infinity 708 but the price is right and I can get a base map pretty quick with their VE tuning feature. I’ve looked into the Haltech pnp platinum pro but with all the added goodies the price goes to over 3.5$k. Where as the aem has a dual wideband controller built in from what I seen on their pnp harness. I’d love to buy the Haltech because my local tuner down the street says it’s really easy to tune Vs Aem. But he has tuned only 2 aem ems and they were the Honda ems 2.
Ive always wanted to get help from you guys here at my350z but I felt I wasn’t worthy. Lol I don’t have as much knowledge as most of the turbo guys here. But, I’m trying to expand my knowledge from the heavy hitters like you.
I seen the Link g4 system on other sites for a reasonable price. I noticed that the link ems has to have resistor packs for certain injectors or coil packs or something like that. How about you? Are you leaning towards Haltech or Link? I’ve watched a few aem base map vids and read their starters manual and quick start guide. That’s about it. Lol it doesn’t look too bad.
I was going to rebuild the gt2554r turbos until I came across a good deal for the ball bearing gt2871 i got from a buddy. Then I had some trouble with the fitment. The compressor housing was hitting the manifold. So I bought 1/2” flange and milled out the taps. And it fits.
Currently im still waiting on my HG and the rest of my parts. I paid for them 24 days ago. Still haven’t received it. Z1 said they’re waiting on the L19s and pistons to be made? I ordered Cosworth hr Hg but there discontinued. So Jon at Z1 went out of his was and sourced some from Dynosty. . I received DE Headgaskets. Sent them back. Settled with cometic gen3 because they’re the only HR hg currently for my bore size.( I’m only going 97mm. )
So now I wait for another 2 weeks for the hg.
I ran the Teflon fuel lines and did the pump setup while waiting for the parts. And now I’m searching for the right ems. If you get a good ems system. I’d like to follow suite. That way I know I have a heavy hitting coach to follow.

Lets go to z nationals/ z con.! They have track day events!

Sucks that I can’t do anything until the rest of the internals get here.

Thank you and I appreciate the kind words ... I dont consider myself special in any form or fashion just a guy with a car, a desire to go fast, and a wealth of knowledge (meaning this forum and the people of it).

nothing wrong with being patient and paying cash for everything you purchase.

Pretty good parts list.
If you havent already - consider a new oil pump. Rev-up is a good start, but look at what Jeramiah has done with his and if you want to spend over $1k a nismo isnt a bad option.
Do you have an oil cooler on your build list? A used setrab w/a oil filter sandwich plate and some rubber or steel braided lines can be had for $100 to $200.

You gotta remember that everyone in any profession started out as a beginner...You may be a newb today but next week you'll be a little smarter, and the week after you'll be even more experienced. Day after day, week after week, year after year. You're doing things right by doing the work yourself, getting your hands dirty, and doing this stuff yourself. Ask questions when youre not sure. You'll turn-around in a year or so and be very knowledgable on this and you'll have the opportunity to help someone out - whether its on a Z or another platform and I encourage you to do so.

You'll come across things that you'll have to pay a professional for but cross that bridge when you get there.

Assuming you got a copy of the Factory Service Manual (FSM)??

A good reference book is Maximum Boost by Corky Bell ... find it used on ebay and order it. Read it, highlight it, dog-ear pages, and keep it around - you'll reference it the rest of your life. My favorite thing is to prove people stupid with it.

I'm looking at the Haltech Elite as I really like Haltech and I think they have a great feel on the industry but $35 is heavy. I'm looking at Link too.

10-4...good practice to rebuild when buying a second hand setup.

An oil cooler is a great tip. I will order the sandwich plate and try to fab up a bracket assy.
As for the FSM I managed to DL when it was still up. Thank goodness I saved it on my desktop and phone.
Maximum boost will be ordered next Friday when I get paid. I’ll be sure to read it.
As for oil pump, I purchased another rev up oil pump but never budgeted for the upgraded gears from boundary engineering. .. I was up in the air with this one. Have the rev up pumps failed before? I plan not to rev above 7100. So I hope it holds. I also didn’t get a block guard.(the one that goes into the water jackets) Z1 was recommending it if I was to rev above 8k. But I told them my plans to just stay near stock levels due to my stock heads.
By the time I get the engine built I hope you’ll have a ems system picked out so I can see how it goes.
How is the HP academy? I was thinking about taking the flash ems classes when I was considering going just uprev. But $800+ Is it worth it? Do they have good interactive support staff to answer questions quickly.
Also. What welder did u buy for your Aluminium tig welding? I used to be a ship fitter/ welder. But I never tig welded. We never had to tig weld where I worked, just mig and stick. So I’ll be going in half blind. Lol
i was looking at a cheapo used harbor freight mig and just squirt gunning my aluminum piping.
Thanks for helping bealljk.
