Try mashing the gas pedal. I always get black build up in the exhaust tips. I had the Injen since Dec of 04 and I drive it hard. The ECU learns your driving patterns.

I have found most of the black stuff comes at start up when the condensation caries out the buildup on the cats.

I wouldn't worry about it.

I drive very hard , use 100octain 3 gals-- to 15gals 91octain . DO you also have the injen intake ? & how many Raccoon pump stickers do you have?

HyperSprite Jan 24, 2005 04:45 PM

I've had the Injen CAI car for about 6000 miles and I get the black in my pipes but if I clean it out, it does not always show up right away.

"Raccoon pump stickers do you have" ???

I only have the Injen exhaust. Maybe because of the 100oct you dont get black build up? I dont have raccoon stickers lol Said that because they get attracted to my bumper.

In Ct. we call animals that we hit with are cars "bumper stickers" thought you would have heard that being from N.Y.C. area. this car has always had the same octain mix, & always had the black in my pipes . only not getitng it for the last 1000miles w/ injen pipes & intake

I need some help here - ? - maybe a mechanic

Why don't you get a Wideband o2 before making inferences? Don't assume you're running lean just because you have no carbon buildup on your tips. It takes quite a few miles to do so.
