Stillen&Nismo thoughts, Injen CAI question
I have spent a lot of time listening to sound clips and liked the Stillen so much that I would have went with that. I felt that the Nismo sounded almost as sweet too. Only problem was when I saw what the Stillen looks like on the car. I hate the straight tips but more than that, the bottom of the actual canister sits almost as low as the bottom of the tips and totally ruins the rear of the car. Looks like it wants to scrap really bad just sitting still. All of the other sytems I looked at (about 12) all tucked in nicely but not so with the Stillen.
So now I have decided to go with the Nismo cat back system.
Now regarding CAI's and pop chargers.
Is it possible to mount an Injen CAI like a pop charger setup, instead of having the filter drop in front of the radiator? Can you simply omit the black turned down section and just have the filter mounted to the end of the polished tube so that the filter resides in the engine bay and if so, how much of a pain would it be to fab a heat sheild? I imagine you would have to fab a little support bracket for the filter and shock tower area but that shoud be easy. Has anybody tried doing something like that? Good bad ugly?
Or..
I guess it would be cheaper and easier and maybe sound even better to just go with a pop charger? Sounds like less hassle to me LOL
Would be kind of cool tho to modify the Injen so I at least have the option to drop it down in front of the radiator later if i wanted to. I'm sure in December with no rain it would make a difference, sucking in 40 degree air as opposed to under the hood air. December, A free intercooler LOL.
If I go with a PC, I want one that looks like the polished Injen setup. I have seen quite a few on the web but no polished ones yet. I know they are out there someplace cuz I have seen them on Z's in here. Who sells polished pop chargers?
I don't care about any HP gains just like the looks of the polished tubes, the filter and I hear they make a cool sucking sound and I'm not just talking about the money it's sucking out of the wallet:-P Really tho, I know the money could be spent on something more usufull but well you know. No wife, no kids so,... well ya know. It's the only under the hood mod I will most likely do because I don't want to screw up the cars reliabilty because it will be driven a lot. HP gains are minimal at best but I have heard that some people say it helps the engine rev to redline a tad faster.
I ltotally love the looks of the Injen but I don't want it to drop in front of the radiator because of the water lock problems. Even if it doesn't get wet enough to actually suck water in, it will restrict air flow when it's soaked I'm sure. Plus I dont like how it looks sitting behind the grill and do like they way it looks sitting in the engine bay.

Good choice on the Nismo exhaust! As for the Injen CAI; yes, you can configure it as a short ram intake, which means the filter would be in the same position as the JWT. If you want to do that, I would just purchase the JWT & a polished intake tube, it will run you about the same as the Injen. Here's a link for both parts you are looking for. Good luck!
