Took off my Injen intake last weekend and saw something I didn't like.
I removed the pipe just after the intake plenum and took a peek inside. There was a lot of dirt and oil stains where the PCV hose comes into the intake. By a lot I mean I could see it and it's more than I'd like to think about going directly into my throttle body. I'm definitely considering installing one of these: http://www.nipponpower.com/accessori..._catchcan.html

Do you think this could be related to the injen (different pressure/air flow in intake) or did you just notice it while the pipe was off?

I'll check the stock pipe, but since that came off in one whole piece and is black, something like that wouldn't stand out versus shiny silver. It shouldn't have anything to do with the Injen since the intake is only supplying a little vacuum for the PCV. It has more to do with the air oil seperator from the crank case allowing a little bit of dirt and oil to get by.
Also, for those considering nitrous, I would look into a check valve for that line so fuel / nitrous isn't allowed through. |

Where are you getting these numbers? Where do you see an oil catch stealing 5rwhp? Where is that line doing anything for power? And it isn't an Injen design flaw because the stock pipe has the same PCV openning. I'm concerned about the throttle body getting gunked up.

My buddy made a catch can out of a seven Up can and some 99c hose. 99bux for a catch can is REDICULOUS!
|
I would use Pepsi Twist. I actually like that stuff!
Can you make one?? I'm just waiting to hear back how an oil catch can would rob the car of 5rwhp and why the PCV line is an Injen design flaw. I must of missed the part in the instructions about drilling a hole in the crank case. |
Yup, my buddy's 93 mr2 had a grape crush can!

Bad air filter
Is it dirt that is going through the filter and sticking to the oil?

PIX of my catch can

Just put this on last week...$70. Comes in anodized red or blue as well. |
where do you hook up the catch can??
|
I also run a catch can on my z. Also I talked to BJ at 350evo, and he told me that they to run a catch can bacuase they were finding oil puddles in the intake plunium. He said it was due mainly to high rpms, but the catch can solved it.

moog-
where did you get yours for 70? |

I run the 15mm greddy catch can works great.
Check out this web site, they have great prices on catch cans. www.optauto.com |

Just sitting in the engine bay like that and your going to pick up all the hot air under the hood. Stop spreading the "their's plenty of air flow under the hood" lie. I don't understand why you continue to push that thing. You couldn't pay me $70 to give up power. As far as my intake goes, where does your reasoning that they do not work come from? I've been in the industry for about 7 years now with modding cars. My last job I worked at a shop with a dyno, and I've spent countless hours tuning cars. Is the total extent of your modification knowledge based solely on what you read, or do you actually have some experience/background in what you're talking about? Cold airs do draw in cooler air, but that doesnt' mean they're the best. Cold air intakes w/ the longer tubing increase low end (which our cars have plenty)...shorter tube intakes increase top end (which our cars need). I for one do not feel comfortable w/ cold air intakes, as I have known 3 people to have blown their motors from water ingestion. It's not worth those extra few hp to me. If it is to you, then great! I wish you the best of luck when it rains. Here's that hug buddy... *HUGZ* |
